Pamela Rakestraw is the co-founder and CEO of SCR Transportation, a leader in the paratransport industry, driven by her personal connection to the disabled community. Since co-founding SCR in 1986, she has transformed it into a successful company providing over 3,500 trips daily while promoting equality and empowerment, particularly for black women. Under her leadership, SCR prioritizes hiring and creating an inclusive environment, currently seeking to recruit more paratransit drivers.

Pamela Rakestraw is co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of SCR
Transportation. Pamela has long been a champion for the physically and mental-
ly disabled. This passion stems from her own personal experience with a sister
who had Down's Syndrome. She has channeled that passion into building SCR
into a major force in the paratransport industry. A former medical social worker
and a daughter of civil rights activists, Pam’s passion and hands on develop-
ment of the structure of SCR has made it the number one medical
transportation company in Chicago. And as a fierce advocate of
equality and justice, Pam has led the charge in implementing
and protecting the rights of customers who face challenges.
Pam co-founded SCR in 1986, drawing on all of her
experience with Health Maintenance Organizations
(HMOs) and hospitals to realize a vision of a com-
pany which would provide safe, efficient, smart
and reliable transportation to the physically
challenged community.

Step by step, Pam has methodically put
in place strategies with a clear goal of
creating an environment of sensitivity
and professionalism. For many
years, Pam personally interviewed
and hired every single employee to
ensure SCR’s criteria for excellence
were met. Through Pam’s foresight
and vision, SCR evolved from a compa-
ny which provided 300 trips per day to its
current successful coordination and provi-
sion of over 3,500 trips per day.
Today, SCR employees an Elite Team of
drivers, hundreds of which are strong, black
women. Her leadership has shown black women;
all women that they can break the barriers, achieve
their goals and make a difference. Pamela encourages
