Stingrays live in warm tropical waters and shallow seas. They have broad flat bodies and whip-like tails with venomous barbs. Stingrays glide through the water using large pectoral fins and will sometimes carry their young as they float. They are carnivores that eat mollusks, crustaceans, fish and other bottom-dwelling creatures. Females give birth to litters of 5-15 pups. Stingrays defend themselves from predators by hiding under sand or striking with their venomous tails. Their main predator is large sharks.
