Have you or your nonprofit fallen victim to one of the classic website blunders? Was it organization by board member, stock photo syndrome, design by committee, vanishing volunteer web developer, or something else? We will discuss 10 classic website blunders we have witnessed that rendered potentially successful projects ineffective engagement tools, and tell you how to avoid them.
Successful Project Estimation: How to Get Your Weekends BackDesignHammer
Do inaccurate estimates frequently lead to you and your team burning the midnight oil or working through your weekends to meet project deadlines? Our team takes both meeting project deadlines and work-life balance seriously and we have developed a system to both accurately estimate projects and manage our team’s capacity to make weekend work the exception rather than the rule.
Facts about Artifacts: Reimagining How New Product Development Artifacts Impa...Mark Hart
To be more successful in a development network, find better ways to produce and integrate artifacts that contribute to the goals of development.
To make better hour-by-hour and day-by-day decisions, embrace a system perspective when writing more lines of code or producing more pages of documentation. Move beyond a perspective that is limited by reductionism or procrustean solutions. Encourage deliberative subtraction (deciding what not to develop) from the perspective of the system. Embrace new product development as more than a collection of diverse artifacts.
Embrace new product development as more than a job characterized by obvious answers where choices are framed as ‘OR’ selections. Embrace “AND” selections that meet the needs of the present and anticipate development in the future. Facilitate set-based design over point-based design. Strive to be proficient problem solvers that also invest in future capabilities. Incorporate artifacts that contribute to the goals and minimize distractions.
First rate individual contributors have the ability to hold a requisite variety of ideas about artifacts in their mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. Refactoring F Scott Fitzgerald from The Crack-Up, April 1936 (3)
With that capability, you can improve your Development Experience [DX] which is another artifact that should be made skillfully.

The Past, Present, and the Future World of teh Project Manager by Amos HaniffAgile ME
Current literature suggests that project management has evolved over two streams of research. The first focuses on systems thinking and the quantitative approach to planning and control techniques developed during the 1950’s and 60’s. The second stream, developed during the 1970’s, focuses on the human resource aspects of project management, in particular, organisational theory and project leadership. It is these two streams of project management research that has shaped project management practice for almost half a century. However, since the late 1990’s there has been a gradual shift towards a strategic stream of project management research. No longer are projects perceived as endeavours to provide tangible products or results. Rather projects are now viewed as vehicles for business transformation, continuous improvement, organisational change, and implementation of organisational strategy. This presentation considers the evolution of project management and the implication for current and future practice. The presentation demonstrates how changes in the global competitive environment, where the project is now viewed as component of the organisations long-term strategic objectives, has led to a change in the way projects are managed. With this, comes the demand for a new breed of project manager that not only has the necessary analytical skills and knowledge of new project developments, but is also able to provide transformational leadership, collaborations and strategic thinking, in the current and future world of project management.
How a Product Development Portal Can Help Turn Innovative Ideas Into Marketab...rivetlogic
Excelling in a modern digital age is all about speed - speed of innovation, getting your products to market, and meeting your customer expectations.
Bringing a new product to market involves multiple phases requiring participation from various teams across the organization, from idea conception to product development and launch.
Without the right tools and processes in place, this could easily result in unnecessary miscommunications, delays, wasted efforts and costs, and could even sacrifice the quality of the outcome.
This presentation discusses how an Ideation and Product Development Portal can help your business manage its end-to-end product development process, from ideation to product launch, with modern tools that help cultivate knowledge flow and innovation.

How to take the stress out of writing case studiesDesignHammer
Case studies are great sales tools. But how many times have you gotten ready to submit a pitch, and realized you were missing case studies for the projects you want to highlight? You assumed somebody on the team would write one after the projected deployed, but everyone got reassigned to other projects, and it slipped through the cracks, again. And now you are sad. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Learn why we draft our project case studies before writing the first line of code, and how the team uses the case study draft as a quality assurance step to help ensure a successful project outcome.

Just Married: User Centered Design and AgileMemi Beltrame
User Centred Design (UCD) and Agile Development are two of the most exciting and productive Methods to achieve high quality appication both desired by the customers and loved by the users. UCD and Agile Development are though often said to be impossible to combine and that despite their great advantages any attempt would most certainly lead to disaster.
This talk picks up the main points of both methods, shows the key issues and tries to offer a pragmatic approach on how to successfully combine User Centered Design and Agile Development.
Data management solutions always look good “on paper”. When it's just a matter of proposals and ROI projections on gleaming white stock, the “abstract” seems perfect. It's only when you go live, and real people get involved that things can get messy. If you don't have a clear, strategic implementation plan in place, who knows what could happen.
You need a plan. And Synergis has a proven plan. During this webcast, you’ll discover...
• Why creating alignment and generating positive buzz are essential to success
• What 6 critical steps must be followed to insure successful implementation
• Which best practices will make you a hero
• The most common pitfalls that impact ROI

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
