The digestive system is made up of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas and gallbladder. Food enters the mouth where it is chewed and enzymes begin breaking it down before moving to the stomach through the esophagus. The stomach acids further break down the food which then enters the small intestine where most digestion and absorption of nutrients occurs. The remaining waste moves into the large intestine where water is absorbed before leaving the body as feces.
