State of the Union Address
After watching the state of the union address, I learned a lot more about what has been
going on in our country. I’ve never been one to involve myself in politics and it was interesting
to understand and actually pay attention to what is happening. During the sixty-five minutes in
which President Obama spoke, many different topics were approached. From discussing
unemployment to talking about taking the troops out of Afghanistan, Obama hit many points that
our country need to be aware of.
Throughout the speech, I noticed that Obama paid special attention to the Bipartisan
Budget Deal. I would say that this was the high point of the speech because he spent most of the
time talking about it. He also made note that it was going to improve a lot of major problems that
we currently have going on. He said that it would bring American-made products to the world’s
fastest growing markets (Obama, 2014). In this case it would support job growth, help our
country move up on the global ladder, help our trade engagements, balance spending cuts, and all
the while improve education throughout the country.
Many might not choose the next point as the low point of the speech; however, I believe
that the discussion of pulling the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan would be the low point. I
would say this because although it was a big announcement, I would have liked to have heard
more about the details and how everything was going to happen. To me it was like he announced
it and discussed it very little before ending the speech. This was a big part of the speech and if it
wasn’t for the lack of detail I would have chosen this as the high point of the address.
