E-commerce - the thread to retailers and latest developmentsImmo Böhm
E-commerce in South Africa is growing rapidly, yet many retail businesses fail to see the shift in user behaviour and thus hesitate to invest in E-commerce. Here we show what happens if you jump onto a trend too late
We experimented with Bluetooth marketing techniques like distributing mugs and muffins with Bluetooth signals, finding that while some customers found it amusing, newer phones were not always compatible with receiving the signals and there were other app-based options for similar promotions.
Makro is part of the METRO group and has 6 outlets in Belgium and 600 outlets worldwide. The document discusses a speed camera marketing campaign by Makro to increase traffic and sales. The campaign involved setting up a "Makro Speed Camera" that rewarded drivers for not speeding with lottery tickets instead of fines. The campaign was innovative and generated buzz. It resulted in over 101,000 website visitors, photographs of over 13,000 drivers, an 11% increase in average ticket size, and 8% more irregular clients visiting stores. The campaign was a success.
This document summarizes a semester project for an online cloth shop management system with invoice generation. The project was completed by two students, Abubakkar Sadiq and Nasar Khan, for their 5th semester software engineering department course. Key aspects of the project included a front-end using HTML, JavaScript, and W3.CSS and back-end using MySQL and PHP. The system allows for online shopping, management of products and orders by an administrator and operator, and generation of invoices.
Mobile versus Online for Shopper Insights and Product Testing - uSampMerlien Institute
This document summarizes a mobile versus online research study presented at the MRMW Berlin conference on September 25, 2014. The study compared shopper insights and product testing using mobile devices versus online for a crisps/chips sensory evaluation. Key findings were that mobile provided more accurate shopper observations and richer diagnostic comments, but recruitment and fieldwork took longer than online. Overall mobile was deemed worthwhile despite some cost and time premiums.
1. The document discusses the Islamic concepts of halal (permissible) and haram (prohibited), providing examples of food restrictions.
2. It describes how Islamic slaughter methods are meant to kill animals humanely by cutting the jugular veins in a swift manner to minimize pain.
3. Studies from a German university are cited that found Islamic slaughter to be the most humane method and that other common Western methods can cause severe pain to animals.

From Interaction to Impact: Connecting Design with Social OutcomesKristin Low
The document discusses designing for social impact. It notes that when developing solutions, one must ensure they are solving the right problem, for the right people, in the right way. It also emphasizes validating solutions through prototypes and minimum viable products. The document then discusses EcoPort, a solution developed for Hong Kong that addresses the problems of waste separation and high transportation costs for recycling. Some key principles for designing for social impact discussed are understanding user motivations, designing ecosystems rather than just apps, disrupting existing line items before entire industries, resisting narrow definitions of scope, and recognizing some stakeholders may not welcome solutions.
