Replace Angular with React. Make the move from the MEAN stack to the powerful MERN Stack!
Come and learn about the MERN stack. No, that isn't a typo. The MERN stack is Mongo, Express, and Node, with React instead of Angular. While both React and Angular are remarkable JavaScript technologies, React comes with less baggage. There is no TypeScript, no annotations, no bossy framework telling you how to do everything.

This meetup will bring us back to basics with a bootstrapping session on building an all Javascript web application on a MEAN Stack:
• MongoDB - NoSQL DB
• ExpressJS - Server Application Framework
• AngularJS - Client Application Framework
• NodeJS - Application Platform
I'll cover the basics of getting bootstrapped with Node.js and building out a fully featured web application from backend-to-frontend. I'll highlight some of the advantages of an all javascript web application as well as show some development tips leveraging gruntJS based on Nate's presentation last meetup.
MEAN Stack technology is a full-stack JavaScript solution that helps you build fast and very light weight web application. The web application made under MEAN stack is fast because the Node js which is run time environment made by C++ which is very fast as compare to other languages.
MEAN is acronym of Mongodb, Express js, Angular js, Node js. The MEAN stack technology is very easy to learn because MEAN is completely based on JavaScript which means you don't have to learn different languages for implementing this.
Next.js is one of the top choices when you need performant and robust React.js server side rendering with smart code splitting on your front end. Things like smart code-splitting, routing, lazy loading, isomorphic state between server and client side (browser) or Webpack optimised configurations can be a hassle, but Next.js framework make your developing process go forward.
After almost two years building from an e-commerce to a publishing site using Next.js with Drupal + GraphQL on production, we learned valuable lessons which motivated us to build the next-on-drupal boilerplate, a collection of examples and tools in order to integrate Drupal best features with Next.js.
I'll share with you our most valuable lessons, showing to you how we integrate: Drupal’s dynamic routing, translations, layouts with contextual blocks, metatags, cache-tags and more.

MongoDB .local San Francisco 2020: Using Client Side Encryption in MongoDB 4.2MongoDB
Encryption is not a new concept to MongoDB. Encryption may occur in-transit (with TLS) and at-rest (with the encrypted storage engine). But MongoDB 4.2 introduces support for Client Side Encryption, ensuring the most sensitive data is encrypted before ever leaving the client application. Even full access to your MongoDB servers is not enough to decrypt this data. And better yet, Client Side Encryption can be enabled at the "flick of a switch".
This session covers using Client Side Encryption in your applications. This includes the necessary setup, how to encrypt data without sacrificing queryability, and what trade-offs to expect.

While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

MongoDB vs Relational DB: Viewing a single
submission would have required pulling data from 6 tables if we
had use a relational DB:
- Submissions for
each app have
different form fields
- To make up for
lack of flexibility
this becomes a
complex schema
36. 36
MongoDB vs. Relational DB
With mongo we can store our submissions in a single collection
- All data for a
submission resides in
one document
- This fits with the way
we use submissions
in our app.

What we’ll cover
• Using MongoDB in our project
– NodeJS and MongooseJS
• Life of a submission: See the whole stack
• Custom Mongoose Plugin:
– ElMongoose: Mongoose >> Elastic Search
