The document describes an approach called the "starfish approach" for sequencing parenting behaviors to encourage desired behaviors in infants. It involves presenting 3 sequences of parenting behaviors that could lead naturally to a targeted infant behavior. The goal is to understand which behaviors most directly influence the target behavior in order to design effective ways to facilitate those sequences and create new habits. The document provides examples of parenting behaviors and infant responses for showing an object to an infant, reading a book, and visiting the zoo.
Have you ever wonder why some parent's don't like to read books to their children? At 18 months of age significant differences are present between children from disadvantage families and children from advantage families. This difference will later transform into the achievement gap, which is costing the US 9-16% of its GDP. Here it's a small contribution to the understanding of the problem in particular with the Latino population. How can we help mothers that are motivated to participate in closing the gap?

To promote the cognitive development of babies, you should train their already mature abilities in order for babies to reach the next stage of the cognitive development. Therefore, if you want to promote the cognitive development of babies, you need to know how intelligence develops in babies. Furthermore, it's necessary to know the already reached developmental level of a baby. Of course, that implies knowledge of their emotions, motor and perceptual abilities, experiences... Also, in order to stimulate its learning motivation, even more, it is necessary to see what the baby shows interest in.
So, promoting cognitive development in babies must be in accordance with their developmental abilities and interests. In the following article, you will be able to read about the 8 ways on how to promote the cognitive development in babies that are in line with their general developmental characteristics and interests.
This project is an observation report where I observed a video of children playing and recorded my observations while connecting it to course content and theories learned in class.
