Al-Qarni Abstract Domestic violence has witnessed considerable escalation lately and has become a serious threat to the security and well being of human societies due to its negative social and psychological impacts on individuals and groups. Domestic violence is not a novel phenomenon. Rather, it has been linked with the emergence of human societies, varying in intensity according to the social and economic changes that take place. Field studies on domestic violence in Arab societies in general and in the Saudi society in particular have been very meager for a multiplicity of reasons, including among them the difficulty of obtaining reliable statistical data on its nature and intensity.This study aims at analyzing the relationship between different types of domestic violence and negligence and deviant behavior. A questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 350 female intermediate school students in Makkah to collect data with the help of students’ counselors at the targeted schools. The study discovered a positive relationship between different types of domestic violence and negligence and deviant behavior. The students who experienced any sort of domestic violence or witnessed it within the family sphere or suffered negligence by their parents have shown indications of deviant behavior – which is indicative of cycle of violence. Although these findings are important, they have to be considered limited as the study is restricted to female students only.
