Digital Tools for Language AcquisitionJohn Spencer
A digital divide exists between native speakers and ELL students. Few of them experience the tech-rich, creative experiences of other students. We can do better! By providing the right language scaffolding, ELL students can experience the same creative, inquiry-based experiences that all students deserve!
The Seven Stages in the Technology JourneyJohn Spencer
Using the metaphor of a journey, this session takes educators through the phases that many teachers go through from "tech tourism" to "tech assimilation" to "tech integration" and eventually "tech citizenship" (including media criticism). The idea here is to develop reflective questions we could ask teachers in each phase so that they could progress toward a deeper understanding of the nature of technology. Participants will reflect on their own journey through technology integration while also developing reflective coaching questions they can use with their colleagues.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

for academics, students and researchers studying
contemporary Africa and its recent history. Its contents
span the full era of the colonisation of the continent by
the European powers.
Documents cover the French occupation of Algeria in
the early nineteenth century as British presence
increased on the west African coast and around the
Cape of Good Hope in the south.
From the 1880s the European rivalries of the ‘Scramble’
saw nearly the whole of Africa come under outside
control, whilst the upheavals of the Second World War
were followed by an era of rapid European withdrawal.
Confidential Print: Africa is an Archives Direct
resource: its users can benefit from searches
across all resources available to them within
the Archives Direct portal. All document
images are provided in high resolution and
are full-text searchable. Please see our
website for more details.
Prominent in the collection are materials on
the 1884 Berlin Conference of colonial powers,
on abuses of workers in Leopold II’s Congo Free
State, on the decades-long British battles with
the Boer states, which culminated in two wars,
on British efforts to combat epidemic disease,
and on 1960s constitutional conferences in pre-
independence Nigeria and
Sierra Leone. The resource also includes 300
colour maps of various parts of the African
continent, from Morocco to South Africa.

west on the Red Sea, a region that is as much East African as it is
Arabian.
• 6 Volumes
• This work collects together nearly 5,000 pages of British government
papers in six volumes documenting the political and territorial changes
within and between states bordering the Red Sea, or linked with it,
including islands and European colonies.
140. Israel: Boundary Disputes with Arab Neighbors 1946–1964
• The years between 1946 and 1964 are some of the most important for
the study of the State of Israel. This collection of primary source
documents focuses on the great diplomatic and territorial problems of
the period.
• 10 Volumes
• These volumes focus on the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan; the
positions of Israel and Jordan regarding the West Bank and Gaza; the
relationship of the refugee problem to the border problem; territorial
adjustments for the benefit of Arab frontier villages; implications of the
armistice lines for border settlements; and Soviet interest and alliances
and Great Power conflict.
141. Israel: Political and Economic Reports 1954-1955
• This project is the second in a series of collections of British
political and economic reports on Israel.
• 6 Volumes
• This collection examines the premiership of Moshe Sharett (1954-
55), second Prime Minister of Israel, in this crucial period as
Nasser comes to power in Egypt and the US and UK governments
work together behind the scenes on the "Alpha" project, to try and
bring peace to Palestine, while within Israel the tensions increase
with regard to its neighbours Egypt and Syria.
142. Minorities in the Middle East: Christian Minorities 1838–1967
• This large collection of primary source material consists of original
political despatches, correspondence and reports covering:
Christian communities in the Levant 1838 to 1955
• 10 Volumes
• Contents include the affairs of the Assyrian communities 1880 to
1951, the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Jacobite, Chaldean
and Syrian Catholic communities, and Protestant communities in
the Levant and Iraq, in particular, with further detail about the
Maronite communities in the Levant 1841 to 1958, and Coptic
Christian communities in the Levant and Egypt 1917 to 1967.
143. Palestine Boundaries 1833–1947
• The aim of the present work is to provide, in a single source of reference,
copies of those historical documents which cumulatively defined the
geographical and political limits of Palestine up to the end of the British
Mandate in 1947.
• 4 Volumes
• The work is intended to establish an objective historical base, taken from
the records, for understanding the evolution of the territorial idea of
Palestine before the modern era. The collection is also intended to
demonstrate the extent and limits of responsibility, particularly British and
French, for territorial decisions, and likewise the extent of solid
international agreement on the delimitation of Palestine boundaries in the
past.
144. Records of Syria 1918–1973
• There is no better single guide to Syria’s eventful history – from the
dying years of the Ottoman Empire to the October War of 1973 – than
this selection by Archive Editions of British diplomatic despatches.
• 15 Volumes

proposed Sykes–Picot Agreement, 1916, the seizure of Damascus
from the Turks in 1918, Arab Government and King Feisal, French
occupation, 1920, the French Mandate and the struggle for self-
government, Druze rebellion 1925/26, proposed Franco-Syrian Treaty,

descriptions and testimonies of history are gathered in the volumes of the
monumental, fascinating and insipiring collection of Records of the Hajj.
• 10 Volumes
• This document contains 6,000 pages, including maps & pilgrimage
certificates. The earliest period is covered by exact copies of sections on
the Hajj in the works of Azraki, Al-Tabari and other Arab chroniclers. Later
documentation presents the Hajj less as a feature in Islam´s historical
development than as a personal experience conveyed through eye-
witness accounts of the pilgrimage rituals and of Mecca and its
inhabitants. Outstanding among such records are passages selected from
the works of Ibn Jubair, Nasir-e Khosrau and Ibn Batuta.
