Poster 0167 EBC 2015 Beer Monitor BasicDaniel Gore
The document describes a new low-cost method called the Beer Monitor Basic for measuring alcohol content inline in breweries. It is an economic alternative to the industry standard Beer Monitor Classic that provides accuracy of ±0.1% alcohol content for applications not requiring the highest accuracy. Test results found it was stable over time, accurately measured batch to batch variations within 0.0005 g/cm3 density differences, and correlated well with laboratory measurements with a standard deviation of 0.05% alcohol content. The Beer Monitor Basic is described as an easy and low maintenance solution for final quality control checks before packaging.
This document discusses homelessness in the United States. It provides statistics that in January 2015 there were 564,708 homeless people and 1 in 6 Americans go hungry. It then examines some of the key problems contributing to homelessness, including low national wages below a living wage, high unemployment rates, and a lack of affordable housing due to high rental costs and stagnant wages. The document proposes some solutions like permanent housing and education programs. It also describes a proposal called TECHDWELL that aims to decrease homelessness through prefabricated micro-homes that take 2-4 days to assemble and cost $24,500 or $250-350 per month in rent. The program hopes to launch in California with funding from government
The document discusses feedback received on a narrative music video. Comments noted that the narrative was unclear and could be improved with icons. However, the footage used was well-liked so it should not be changed. Suggestions were also made to use black and white effects to fit the indie genre, and fix lip syncing timing to make the video look more professional. Implementing these changes would make the narrative clearer and video more iconic and polished.

This document discusses creating a CLEAR (Collaborative, Lean, Evolving, Adaptable, Reportable) project portfolio. It argues that agile portfolio management is about creating agility at the portfolio level, not just applying agile frameworks to projects. It defines the CLEAR approach and explains how being CLEAR at each level (story, epic, product, portfolio) promotes engagement, understanding of work, adaptability, and visibility. Applying CLEAR principles organically creates agility rather than forcing frameworks.

This document discusses best practices for part numbering. It notes pros and cons of fully intelligent versus non-intelligent part numbering schemes. The best practices recommend embedding permanent characteristics in part numbers but using attributes and serial numbers for variable properties. Part number intelligence should be balanced and driven into bills of materials to support alternative values. An acceptable middle ground is needed.
The document summarizes the design of a ceiling lamp called "LiF" for a 45-year-old housewife named Andrea. Some key details:
- LiF stands for "Lightness in the Family" and was designed to provide lighting for Andrea's home in a sustainable, low-cost way.
- It uses translucent textures and LEDs to spread light throughout the space. Prototypes were created and tested.
- The lamp is intended to be manufactured locally out of durable materials like aluminum and PVC for around $300 pesos.
- It was presented as part of a school project to bring lighting and harmony to Andrea's home in an affordable, eco-friendly design
