Plot is the structure of a story that shows characters in action. It begins with a character having a problem or conflict. As the rising action builds, events happen as the character tries to solve the problem. The plot reaches a climax when the problem is met, answering how or why the problem happened. It ends with a resolution where the problem is solved slowing down the action. A story mountain is a graphic organizer that shows the sequence of plot parts like a house, with a foundation, walls, roof, and extras to complete the structure and movement of the story.

The Case for Value Stream Architecture (Mik Kersten, Carmen DeArdo)Carmen DeArdo
1) Nationwide began its agile journey in 2006 and saw improvements in productivity, predictability, and quality from adopting agile and lean practices, but needed to increase speed across the entire value stream.
2) Nationwide implemented DevOps practices in 2016 to improve lead time and deployment frequency, resulting in $25M+ in annual economic value along with on-time delivery over 90% and 88% of releases with zero defects.
3) True north for Nationwide is reducing lead time for changes to enable greater business responsiveness.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document discusses three types of third-person point of view in narratives: omniscient, limited, and objective. In omniscient point of view, the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all characters. Limited point of view means the narrator only knows the thoughts of one character. Objective point of view takes an impersonal, observational approach without getting inside any character's perspective.
The document provides a lesson on determining the central idea of a text. It explains that the central idea is what the text is mostly about. To identify the central idea, one should ask who or what the text is about, and what the author says about that topic. The central idea should contain the topic and the author's main point about that topic, while summarizing what the text is mostly discussing.

Figurative language uses comparisons between two unlike things through devices such as similes, metaphors, and personification. Similes directly compare two things using "like" or "as", while metaphors imply a comparison without using those words. Personification gives human traits to non-human objects. Other figures of speech include imagery, which creates mental pictures, and hyperbole, which exaggerates for effect.

Analyst: What would you like SharePoint to do?
Customer: Well, what can it do?
Analyst: Tons! Let me show you…
All too often, this is how conversations between analysts and customers/stakeholders begin, and it isn’t helpful to anyone. SharePoint has a vast array of capabilities, but if you start by describing or demonstrating what SharePoint can do and how the technology works, you will end up with customers who are confused and don’t know where to begin, or who have massively overblown expectations.
In this session, you will learn how to set up and conduct workshops with various stakeholders that will allow you to understand their real needs. You will then learn how to document and organize this information so that it is useful to the stakeholders and that will allow you to guide them through prioritization and planning.
You will learn when NOT to do demonstrations of SharePoint, and when and how to do demos that are powerful and effective.
A fable is a story that features animals, plants, objects, or nature that are given human qualities to illustrate a moral lesson. For example, an ant stored grain for the winter while a cricket did not prepare. When the cricket asked for the ant's grain, the ant refused, questioning why the cricket did not store its own food for winter.
HOW TO WRITE AN ESSAY (REVISITING PARAGRAPH WRITING)
English Language learners: This is a step-by-step 24-slide presentation to help you revisit necessary information about paragraph writing, so you can assemble an essay in a few easy steps. (Created by Rita Zuba Prokopetz / G&R Languages – October, 2013)
An essay is a group of paragraphs that discusses a single topic and central main idea. It typically contains at least three paragraphs, with five paragraphs being a common academic length. The structure of an essay includes an introduction with a general statement and thesis, body paragraphs that explain and support the thesis with evidence, and a conclusion that restates the main points. An outline is used to organize the information and structure of an essay in an ordered format using Roman numerals, capital letters, and Arabic numerals to denote the introduction, main ideas, supporting points, and details.
The document discusses characterization in literature. It defines characterization as conveying information about characters' traits. There are two types: direct characterization states a character's personality through adjectives, while indirect characterization reveals traits through a character's thoughts, words, actions, and how others respond to them, using verbs. Examples are provided of both direct and indirect characterization, showing and telling a character's traits.

This document provides strategies and tips for active reading. It emphasizes making connections, asking questions, expanding vocabulary, predicting, visualizing, determining importance, inferring, summarizing, synthesizing, annotating, and using "fix-up" strategies when comprehension breaks down. The overall message is that reading is an active process that requires thinkers to engage with text in various ways.
This document provides information about fractured fairy tales, including what they are, examples of common fairy tales, and guidance for creating a fractured fairy tale. It defines a fractured fairy tale as reworking a well-known story in a humorous way by changing characters, events, language, or other elements. It lists fairy tales that are often fractured, like Little Red Riding Hood or Cinderella. It then gives instructions for assignments to rewrite fairy tales by changing settings, characters, time periods, or having characters from different tales meet. Students must stay true to the original story form while adding an unexpected twist to create a modern version.

2023 Challenges and Opportunities Impacting Technical Documentation Team Capa...Scott Abel
The document summarizes the results of a survey on technical documentation teams. It found that most teams are small (84% have 24 or fewer staff) and face significant challenges like resource constraints. While many teams are moving to structured content, resistance to change prevents some from doing so. Top opportunities for teams include helping marketing, sales, and customer satisfaction by optimizing content. Overall, the survey shows documentation is essential but teams still need more support and capabilities to meet business needs.
This lesson plan provides guidance for teaching students how to write effective college essays and resumes. The essay portion introduces sample college essays and advice for what makes a great essay. Students evaluate essays in small groups and discuss what is effective. They then create timelines of significant life events to help choose essay topics. For resumes, students explore sample formats and brainstorm achievements to include. Activities help students translate experiences into skills and create a draft resume. The plan aims to reveal students' personalities and prepare application materials for college.
This document discusses three modes of persuasion - pathos, logos, and ethos - that can be used in essays. Pathos appeals to emotions, logos uses logic and facts to persuade, and ethos relies on the credibility of the persuader. It also mentions a debate topic on whether junk food should be banned in US schools.
This document discusses sentence fragments and how to identify and fix them. It defines a sentence fragment as an incomplete sentence that is missing a subject, verb, or complete idea. Examples of fragments are provided and fixed by adding subjects and verbs. There are three methods to fix fragments: attaching the fragment to another sentence, adding a subject or verb, or removing the fragment-causing phrase. Sentence fragments should generally be avoided in formal writing.
The document discusses main ideas and supporting details. The main idea of a story is its overall topic, which can be summarized in one sentence. Supporting details provide extra information and examples that help explain the main idea. They give readers a better understanding of the story by engaging one or more of the five senses. Identifying both the main idea and supporting details of a passage is important for comprehension.
Figurative language uses comparisons between two unlike things through devices such as similes, metaphors, and personification. Similes directly compare two things using "like" or "as", while metaphors imply a comparison without using those words. Personification gives human traits to non-human objects.
