The Euratom Treaty is 50 years old this year! Indeed, it was the ET that first proposed the concept of a Community Programme of research, funded from the Community budget. This is contained in its Article 7. Only much later was this taken up by the more general EC Treaty. The EU has, this year, launched the 7 th edition of its Framework Programmes.
