S.R. 5
In Support of Extended Library Hours
IN THE LAMAR UNIVERSITY STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
Author: Ms. Sarah Sanders (College of Fine Arts and Communication)
Co-Authors: Mr. Ryan Sherer (Sophomore Class)
WHEREAS, Student Government serves as the official voice of the students at Lamar
University,
WHEREAS, Currently, the Mary and John Gray Library is open to students from 7:30 A.M.
until 11:45 P.M. on Mondays through Thursdays, 7:30 A.M. until 6:45 P.M. on Fridays, 10:00
A.M. until 6:45 P.M. on Saturdays, and 2:00 P.M. until 11:45 P.M. on Sundays.
WHEREAS, Numerous other Texas schools already have 24 hour libraries, including Baylor,
Texas Tech, the University of Texas, Texas A&M, and The University of North Texas. It would
be more economically reasonable for a smaller institution such as Lamar University to achieve
the benefits of a more accessible library by simply extending hours to 2 A.M. Keeping the library
open later would benefit students who work and attend class during current library hours and
provide all students with a safe place to study at night.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Student Government Association of Lamar
University requests that the Mary and John Gray Library consider extending daily library hours
to 2 A.M.
