RE: ACADEMIC REFERENCE FOR WAYNE RAMWELL
I am a Senior lecturer in Law at the University of Manchester. I write this reference for Wayne
Ramwell who is applying for doctoral study at the University of Leeds.
I have known Wayne for some 4 years now. This commenced in my capacity as his lecturer
at the University of Manchester, School of Law where he pursursed his Bachelors of Law (LLB)
degree. Wayne subsequently graduated with a higher 2.1 degree. He was admitted for
Masters of Law (LLM) study. A measure of his intellectual acumen was that his LLM
application was ranked in the top 5 percentile. To put this in perspective, in that year, the
School of Law received 480 applications from around the world.
Wayne was a diligent and committed individual. He had a strong work ethic, excellent
management and research skills. His pieces of work were well-researched and written and
exhibited a high degree of scholarly application and intellectual communication. Equally,
besides academic pursuits, Wayne was active in extra-curricular activity. Throughout his
undergraduate and into postgraduate studies, he was a very respected student leader.
As a person Wayne has a very pleasant personality and disposition that makes him readily
approachable and engaging. Overall he is the kind of person to whom the words focused
and balanced immediately jump to mind. Given his scholarly focus and enthusiasm to
pursue doctoral studies, I enthusiastically support Wayne’s application for doctoral studies at
the University of Leeds.
