This lends itself to a discussion of the things we pursue in life and what the Bible says we should pursue.

The document discusses how spiritual formation, defined as nurturing one's relationship with God, is becoming a greater focus in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and other denominations. While the Adventist Church has traditionally emphasized doctrinal knowledge, leaders recognize a need to help members experience God daily. Though not a new concept, rediscovering spiritual formation can help address issues like low rates of prayer, Bible study, and community involvement.

14 Useful Questions for the Friendly EvangelistChris Walker
The friendly evangelist needs to have some conversational starter questions to sometimes raise spiritual questions. Questions can be used to diagnose where a person is in their journey to Christ. If you practice personal evangelism, consider adding these questions to your memory for conversations about Jesus. Helpful to know the Engle scale as well
The document discusses National Conferences on Innovation that were promoted by the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. It provides details about these conferences and notes that close to 2,000 individuals signed a petition in protest. Forum participants discuss and debate these ideas.
The document summarizes a sermon given on Malachi 1:1-11. It discusses how Malachi, as the last Old Testament prophet, delivered God's message to Israel during a spiritually silent period. The people questioned God's love for them, so God reminded them that He loved Jacob but hated Esau based on their character and desires. This document discusses salvation through Jesus Christ from several perspectives:
- Jesus is the author and perfecter of our salvation, laying the foundation through his death and resurrection.
- He is the cornerstone and bridegroom who establishes our relationship with God and ensures our destiny is transformation into his image.
- However, many conceive of Jesus in a man-made rather than biblical way, exchanging the truth about him for a culturally and politically correct version that cannot fulfill our deepest needs or be the solid foundation for our lives. To find true salvation we must turn from false comforts and accept the biblical Jesus who alone can reconcile us to God through his atoning death on the cross.

Being a Christian is difficult for several reasons:
1. Following Christ requires changing one's character, which is an extremely difficult task that seems almost impossible.
2. There is confusion, anger, judgment, and violence among Christian traditions and between Christians and non-Christians, which makes Christianity unappealing.
3. Most Christians are nominal and leave their faith outside of church, failing to live authentically or take social action as called for by Christ. This dims Christianity's light for transforming society.
4. The biggest impediment to living out faith is ourselves - our pride, arrogance, lack of interest in others, and failure to use our time, talents, and resources to demonstrate

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

• Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is
that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our
darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be
brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you
not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve
the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that
other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to
shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our
own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

27. Why be online? @FrDavidCloake
• Whilst I cannot conclude my thinking in a wholly positive
way, I acknowledge that great use of all of this to my own
personal discipleship. I am a broader Christian, a better
informed Christian, a more readily supported and sustained
Christian and for that I love this digital life. If that makes
me a better Christian, then perhaps its purpose is served
if a purpose exists and indeed if a purpose is needed.
However, I shall continue to pray that someone,
somewhere, can say with absolute clarity that because of
this digital community, they came to Christ.
33. DISCUSS: Who is my neighbour?
• What does it mean to ‘love your neighbour’ in a world in which a
‘friend’ might as easily be the kid from down the street you grew up
with as a woman in Botswana whom you’ve never seen in person
and only know in the context of Facebook status updates, photos,
and notes? What is the nature of community at prayer in a compline
service tweeted each evening by the cybermonks of a Virtual
Abbey? What is the ecclesiological and liturgical significant of
worship in various churches across the theological spectrum on the
quasi-3D, virtual reality site ‘Second Life’? How can we negotiate
spiritual interaction in these contexts without losing sight of
basic elements of Christian faith expressed in traditional
embodied and geographically located practices of prayer,
worship, and compassion towards others?

34. ‘Make disciples of all nations’
• Do you feel comfortable in the online spaces?
• Which particular spaces do you feel you can

• Do you feel you can support those who are in
the online spaces?
36. End on a Prayer
Father, Creator God,You sent your Word, Jesus Christ, to reveal your love and
compassion to the world; you have called us to be his disciples, true images of your
beloved Son,proclaiming his Gospel to all creation. His story is now our story.Keep us
faithful to what we have received, and generous in our sharing.Holy Father, we thank
you also for the gift of the Holy Spiritwhom you sent to sanctify and bless all you have
createdand be the bond of love that unites all of us with you and your Son.Send forth
your Spirit upon us now.Purify our hearts and make us attentive to your promptings
that we may be true missionaries in the digital world.Grant us the humility to seek
you above and before all other thingsthat all we say and do may be done in your
name and for your glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

To those of you who are not familiar with Twitter – it’s a series of 140 character messages which gives great opportunities to connect/build relationships with those who are interested in similar things to you. Image: Screenshot
Today’s key verse suggested by Spring Harvest is … are we SEEING, HEARING, EXPERIENCING… if not .. If we’re not being refilled from the source, how can we share with others (in any space?)
Is it about being, doing? Is it about you/God? Is it about expectations? Is it about perceptions from others? What do you think people would be searching for online? Does it address your passions? http://www.seedresources.com/view/images/living_within_the_light_of_christ_as_children_of_god. FLIPCHART paper – words/doodles…
These are what is returned for ‘Child of God; (just a warning that Children of God returns lots of disturbing images related to a cult, so please do avoid searching for that…)
An exercise you might like to try later … envisioning what God looks like…
We’ve talked about returning to ‘The Source’ to know what Jesus says, but the internet gives exposure to a great range of ideas/philosophies – and here we look at some of them … some ideas that tie into the idea that God gave us passions to follow…
Are we being a caterpillar … I spend a lot of time working with people thinking about what it means to be a disciple online – by nature that will be those who are not afraid to talk about their faith online – though will do it in different ways…
Note: digital doesn’t mean doing everything online… take 5 minutes to sit in silence, and think about what you really LOVE, are driven to do, and how that might be viewed as God-given… not looking to share, just think, take time for yourself…
Today we’re encouraged to look at courage as another core verse.. Which in my head … about the courage to BE! [Coming from perspective of someone who felt unable to ‘be’ for many years… ]
So how do we define ‘courage’ … I like confident without being incautious… not irrational, but knowing what you stand for and going for it..
One of my passions – want to develop into a research project – is about being authentic/real online …
It’s where the name of my business ‘Digital Fingerprint’ comes from… others talk about a ‘digital footprint’ or ‘digital shadow’ – leaving traces behind (both feel quite heavy, possibly even sinister) – a fingerprint is unique, it’s totally YOU … the YOU that God created … so how do be ‘the best YOU’ that you can be…
Text from Spring Harvest material… http://www.seedresources.com/view/images/true-identity
Think it’ s hard to sustain ‘ authenticity ’ 24/7 online, are so many TRACES … (still entirely possible, but I think hard) … but also there ’ s a tendency to work hard on ‘ marketing ’ ourselves… (e.g. Romania … they go out and have studio photos taken for Facebook)… http://www.seedresources.com/view/images/identity-in-christ
Lives on display have done for years … in many ways online = much more ‘real’ than TV relationships – it’s 2 way… http://bigbible.org.uk/2012/10/audience-participation-hollypoulter-digidisciple/
Always remember that there is a human being at the other end of the keyboard - each uniquely created by God… and as is noted by many communicators is not what you ’ve said, but what others have ‘heard’ … not everyone receives the message that you send in the same way .. And one message definitely doesn’t fit all… we’re in the world of what is described as “the long tail”, where rather than being able to send out a mass message, we have to have more concern with individuals (which I always hope we as Christians do anyway, but…. ) – Google searches for ‘niches’ (small keywords/multiple entry points, etc.) So…
When we’re engaging with others online, or accepting ourselves… accept as we are… http://uminntilt.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/introverts-extroverts-change-takes-courage/
We may be the only Bible that some people ever see … What do your priorities appear to be? Does God seem to have a place in your life? Demonstrate life as it is, rather than how you wish it would be… Relentlessly positive? How do we also share some of the difficulties of life – be real, allow people to connect with us [some of best sermons I’ve ever heard are people telling me are how they’ve dealt with difficult times… demonstrated that they are still pursuing the answers… ]… sentences end in a question rather than in a full stop? http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/2dQMJYj/We+Are+Not+Alone
The ‘performance culture’ – online can all be driven by metrics, can end up defining oneself by numbers rather than quality of engagement…
Also purpose – to encourage, challenge, think through things with each other… how do we change ourselves, our community … and our nation/global?
What makes the gospel ‘good news’ to people of these different backgrounds? How should we adjust our witness and church life to fit their needs? Subject of some thinking days… including how do we ‘ contextualise ’ what we ’ re doing in the digital space – without compromising it… If we ’ re not confident in it (and I don ’ t mean knowing it inside out – I ’ m no academic theologian… part of setting up BigBible was interest in engaging…)
hyper-local, taking time online – not sending a quick tweet and thinking that’s fulfilled requirement to ‘be online’ in a space where many are… Want 2 show you 3 people who have particularly been placed in the digital space … 2 using only free software/their time/their own thoughts, whilst the other draws on a wide range of voices…
Brings us to the bigger question… which I want us to discuss – who is our neighbour… we’re in a church which talks a lot about embodiment, and Jesus came/incarnational… but we are part of a global world (look more in ‘do’ as we look at e.g. international efforts … think also we live in a world where people move around a lot – how does online allow us to keep connected/make longer term friendships, etc.? Think also – it’s a space where the past is continuously documented – what do we do with that knowledge? Place/location (geography, history, socially, globally) – being truly present where God has placed us – being willing to ‘stick around’ and commit to an area – how can we be a placemaker in the digital space? In ‘say’ we’ll think more about learning the etiquette of the online spaces… and seek to fill those with salt & light…
We can talk more about these tomorrow… but if you love surfing – can you be in a surfing Facebook page … how can that be authentic communication … not “ Bible bashing ” …
Final word – remember – there is always a human being at the other end of the keyboard… think before you type… Questions?
