A Letter From CoachSnyderA Letter From CoachSnyder
April 3, 2015
We have just started spring practice (today being April 3
and our second workout). Still without pads.We have 104
presently on the team; too early to tell, but it is apparent that
we have a long way to go. Losing so many prominent and
productive players through graduation will truly change the
dynamics of the 2015 team.Their degree of commitment will
define more clearly where we are and where we’re going.
As you know by now, our spring game will be held in Kansas City at the Sporting Soccer Stadium.
Unfortunately, the seating capacity is somewhat limited, but we are having a Golden Cat“reunion”at the
game and I believe you can still get tickets that have been set aside. The construction of the newVanier
Complex has created somewhat of an unsafe venue here for the game and thus, the move to Kansas City.
The complex is moving forward rapidly and the“projected”date that we may be able to move back in is
the last week of July.We start practice on August 5th, so it will be a quick re-transition.We are presently
spread out in many different areas with our staff on the 4th floor of theWest Stadium, our team and
group meeting spaces on both the 4th and 5th floors. Our academic center is on the 2nd floor, the team
locker room is spread out at both the Indoor Football Facility and Bramlage. The old indoor facility has
been converted to our weight room.
I appreciate the players, coaches and staff for their patience in dealing with the inconvenience. The
players will enjoy their new weight room, locker room, training room, player lounge and academic
learning center.
I am so very pleased with the GE Johnson Construction Company and the Mortenson Company for the
great, prompt and well-coordinated efforts of their workers. They work 16-21 hours per day, 7 days a
week and have only taken Easter Sunday off. Sean has been our liaison with the project and has worked
diligently to get it all as we would like. The two companies mentioned above have been very cooperative
and have developed a positive working relationship with Sean.
A couple of quick notes:Very proud ofTyler Lockett who just recently was honored with the Johnny
Rodgers (ex-Heisman winner) SpecialTeams Player of theYear Award. Johnny, and the founder of the
award, CoachWilliam Reed, were here to make the initial presentation.
I am also proud of over 60 of our players who will be going to the four retirement homes here in our
community to spend time with the ill and elderly residents this month.
I’ve probably taken up too much space here so I will close by saying that you are truly, greatly
appreciated byYOUR football program, the coaches, players and support staff.Thank you for caring as
you do.
Warmest Regards,

How did you get involved with Kansas State Football and what do you do
now?
I started at K-State Football in August of 1993. I had been in the banking
industry for 20 years prior to being hired in the football office so it was a
totally different job for me and I’ve loved every minute of it. I was raised with
six brothers so working with all the assistant coaches was fun. I work with the
assistant coaches in any way they need for game day and season preparation.
As the years have gone by, technology has changed a lot of the day to day
requirements for game and season preparation so it’s been an evolving job. I
do special assignments for Coach Snyder, assist with the Annual Football Award
Ceremony at McCain Auditorium, work with our Golden Cat organization,
compose Team and Travel Party Manuals for bowl games, arrange visits for
our players and Coach Snyder to senior assisted living groups, coordinate Pro
Scouts visits and pretty much anything that anyone asks me to do!
What is your favorite part of working at K-State Football?
I truly love every aspect of my job but watching the boys come through our program and leave as young men
is very rewarding. I love working with all of the coaches – they’re all great men and work very hard.
What is a favorite memory you have?
I have been to 15 bowl games, and they have all been awesome, but the first one, the 1993 Copper Bowl, was
probably my favorite. It was so great to beat Wyoming in the Arizona dessert with thousands of K-State fans
cheering.

Within the expansion, what will benefit the players and coaches the
most?
The players will have access to a larger locker room, weight room, and
training room. There will be state of the art water therapy. Also, there will
be a great fueling station that will provide easy access to nutrition.
What was the formerVanier Football Complex in need of most that will
be upgraded with the new complex?
Space. The new facility will provide a great new look and much more space
for the players.
Whataresomenewopportunitiesthatwillcomewiththenewcomplex?
This will enhance our recruiting process. With as many new facilities that
have gone up in our conference, this will get us back in the ball park. With
increased space, a new look and enhanced technologies we will be able to
provide a great experience.
Howwillthenewfacilitycomparewithothers
in the Big 12 and nation wide?
This facility will put us in the upper echelon of
schools.
What are you looking forward to most in
the future for K-State football through this
expansion?
The most important aspects are having the
facilities to provide a great learning, health and
physical environment that is occupied by caring
and knowledgeable people. The increased size
and technologies will help with this.

20th Season
Kansas State‘94
What was your favorite part about playing at Kansas State?
Max: All of it. My junior year when we actually could have
gone to a bowl game if we had beat KU. I liked working with
a lot of great kids that worked really hard that put in 100%
effort, even though a lot of the time we were undermanned
and undergunned.
I also met my wife who was a cheerleader at Kansas State.
Don: It was such an overwhelming thing that I even got to
play for Kansas State. I really enjoyed meeting so many boys
and staying in the Old Stadium. I met some of my very best
friends, Ben Grosse and Les Krull. Meeting them was one of
the best experiences I have ever had.
What are some experiences you share with your brother
through being on the team?
Max: He was quite a bit older, but what was fun is when he
took me to go to the training table with him before I was
on the team. We got to eat all we wanted. We are from the
country and our family had six kids so we were glad to get to
eat all that we wanted. We both keep in touch with teammates
we had while playing at Kansas State.
I had a brother that played at Nebraska and we could have
played against each other but I was red shirted here at Kansas
State that year.
Don: When I got out of college I began farming and I didn’t get
to go to many of Max’s games, but yes, the training table was
always a good place to eat.

What is it like being Golden Cat members together?
Max: Once and a while in the fall we go to games together and we go to Cat
Town sometimes.
Don: Being able to go back and see both older and younger players is always a special
occasion. I never intended on going to college , but I got a scholarship to K-State.
School was hard and momma didn’t let me quit. I graduated with a major in Biology and
Agriculture.

What did you learn from being on the team?
Max: Probably a no-quit attitude, that is what makes people successful. Just don’t quit
and that’s all there is to it. It’s easy to quit, but it doesn’t do you any good. Keep plugging
away, it’s not always easy but it will do you some good. You have to have a lot of self
discipline and keep ahead with stuff, I had to keep ahead in school and not let anything
get in the way.
Don: Hard work, perseverance, and a never give up attitude. It was tough, but I never
gave up. We didn’t win a lot of them, but we gave them all that we had. Being a guard at
160 lbs I had to give it all I had.

Before coming to Kansas State, Morgan Burns attended Trinity High School in Wichita,
KS. He was rated the number 14 player in the state of Kansas by Rivals.com in 2011. He
was a three-time, all-league pick at both the defensive back and running back positions.
Over his final two high school seasons, Morgan rushed for 2,700 yards and scored 36
touchdowns.
Morgan, who is majoring in Communications Studies, has been a large factor on both
defense and special teams. He started 12 games in 2014, finishing 6th on the team with 55
tackles, tying second with three interceptions and tallying seven pass breakups. Morgan
excelled in the return game averaging 30.7 yards per return and returned a kickoff of 86
yards for a touchdown against Oklahoma State. Morgan, who has been voted a player
representative for the 2015 season will look to continue his success during his senior year.
Family is something that has always meant a lot to Morgan, whether it was his biological
family or the K-State family. This season, Morgan will get to share his K-State family with his
younger brother, Tyler Burns, who has committed to K-State as a grey shirt freshman on the team. Morgan says,“I am so
excited that he will be here this summer and we can live and work out together. Hopefully we can get closer and I can help
him out the best way I can!”
Besides school and football commitments, Morgan likes to stay very active around campus with friends.“I like to read, play
basketball, sand volleyball, hangout with friends and when I have the time, I like to do some hiking in the mountains if I
can.” Morgan has also been very actively involved in the campus ministry, STUMO (Student Mobilization).“I have met some
of my best friends at STUMO and it has taught me how to be
a leader and how to grow in character, which is huge for any
football player or person who is trying to lead.” Since Morgan
will be graduating in December, he says,“I’ll see what football
may hold for me and I want to look into different full time
ministry opportunities: pastoral ministry, college ministries or
go overseas.”
As Morgan reflects on his time at Kansas State so far he says,
“My biggest inspiration is just being around the guys... I truly
love the players on the team!”

What are your thoughts on spring ball and having the spring game in Kansas City?
KC: We lost a couple of key pieces but I think that we have more than people realize. I’m
excited to see what the young guys coming in will do. I’m excited for it. This is probably the
most excited that I have been for spring ball.
DC: I’m excited, especially having it at Sporting Park. That will be really cool.
JL: I’m really looking forward to spring ball, I think that we have a lot of guys working hard.
It’s going to be really cool having it in Kansas City because that’s a world class facility, so that
will be really cool!
MB: I think we have a lot of big fans out in that part of town, in Kansas City.
What is your favorite part of footballl?
KC: Every Saturday, being in front of 50,000 of the most passionate fans. I mean, our fan
base is awesome. Especially our student section, I think, is the most passionate. They’re
loud, they’re always there. I look forward to every Saturday because they make it that much
better.
JL: I really like the day to day stuff and just being with the guys, just the camaraderie and the
togetherness; Some of my best friends are on the team, guys that I’ll probably be in contact
with for the rest of my life. When we are doing actual football stuff, we’re serious, but when
we’re not, we’re just messing around and stuff. Putting our hard work out there on Saturdays
for the fans to see is really cool too.
MB: I think I enjoy just being known. I can go somewhere and someone will be like,“Hey!
Marquel!”and it’s cool because I can sit around and hold a conversation with anybody. Kids
truly appreciate you and what you do. I met a kid during season and he just wanted me to
sign something for his dad who was in the hospital and I didn’t have anything to sign for
him at the time, so I had him call his dad and I got to talk to him and everything. It’s just
the fact that it means so much to them. To me, I’m just a guy who puts on shoulder pads
every day. It’s nothing. I’m not anyone too special, but it means that much to a kid and that’s
something that he’ll remember the rest of his life.
DC: Growing up 30 minutes down the road, as a kid, I was here every Saturday and I
remember a first grade field trip, we came and toured K-State and my mom has pictures
from when we were down on the field. I guess when I was little, I told my mom,“Mom, I’m
going to play on this field one day.”I guess it’s just my dream to be playing here, I’m actually
doing what I’ve always wanted to do.
KC: I can vouch for that too. Growing up, I was always a K-State fan and now that we’re
actually getting to live our dream on Saturday

  • 2. GOLDENCATCONTACTS Kacey Harper Asst. Director of Football Operations 785-532-7052 kharper@kstatesports.com Matt Giller Ahearn/Asst. Director of Development 785-532-7984 mgiller@kstatesports.com Newsletter designed by: Emily Brannon Powercat Pride Volunteer Kansas State University Class of 2015 A Letter From CoachSnyderA Letter From CoachSnyder April 3, 2015 We have just started spring practice (today being April 3 and our second workout). Still without pads.We have 104 presently on the team; too early to tell, but it is apparent that we have a long way to go. Losing so many prominent and productive players through graduation will truly change the dynamics of the 2015 team.Their degree of commitment will define more clearly where we are and where we’re going. As you know by now, our spring game will be held in Kansas City at the Sporting Soccer Stadium. Unfortunately, the seating capacity is somewhat limited, but we are having a Golden Cat“reunion”at the game and I believe you can still get tickets that have been set aside. The construction of the newVanier Complex has created somewhat of an unsafe venue here for the game and thus, the move to Kansas City. The complex is moving forward rapidly and the“projected”date that we may be able to move back in is the last week of July.We start practice on August 5th, so it will be a quick re-transition.We are presently spread out in many different areas with our staff on the 4th floor of theWest Stadium, our team and group meeting spaces on both the 4th and 5th floors. Our academic center is on the 2nd floor, the team locker room is spread out at both the Indoor Football Facility and Bramlage. The old indoor facility has been converted to our weight room. I appreciate the players, coaches and staff for their patience in dealing with the inconvenience. The players will enjoy their new weight room, locker room, training room, player lounge and academic learning center. I am so very pleased with the GE Johnson Construction Company and the Mortenson Company for the great, prompt and well-coordinated efforts of their workers. They work 16-21 hours per day, 7 days a week and have only taken Easter Sunday off. Sean has been our liaison with the project and has worked diligently to get it all as we would like. The two companies mentioned above have been very cooperative and have developed a positive working relationship with Sean. A couple of quick notes:Very proud ofTyler Lockett who just recently was honored with the Johnny Rodgers (ex-Heisman winner) SpecialTeams Player of theYear Award. Johnny, and the founder of the award, CoachWilliam Reed, were here to make the initial presentation. I am also proud of over 60 of our players who will be going to the four retirement homes here in our community to spend time with the ill and elderly residents this month. I’ve probably taken up too much space here so I will close by saying that you are truly, greatly appreciated byYOUR football program, the coaches, players and support staff.Thank you for caring as you do. Warmest Regards,

  • 4. Coach Mike Cox Assistant Coach Linebackers Third Season - Idaho‘89 What is your favorite part about being a coach for Kansas State? Being a part of a great program and living in Manhattan, KS. What are the most important things you instill in your players? That they will be prepared to be successful. What keeps you passionate about coaching? When the preparation of the weeks work meets the challenge of gameday. What are you looking forward to in the coming season? The progress that our younger players have made and will continue to make. What is your best piece of advice? You don’t ever stay the same - you either get better or you get worse. By Emily Brannon By McKenzie Veselic Extrovert or Introvert? • 5. By Emily Brannon How did you get involved with Kansas State Football and what do you do now? I started at K-State Football in August of 1993. I had been in the banking industry for 20 years prior to being hired in the football office so it was a totally different job for me and I’ve loved every minute of it. I was raised with six brothers so working with all the assistant coaches was fun. I work with the assistant coaches in any way they need for game day and season preparation. As the years have gone by, technology has changed a lot of the day to day requirements for game and season preparation so it’s been an evolving job. I do special assignments for Coach Snyder, assist with the Annual Football Award Ceremony at McCain Auditorium, work with our Golden Cat organization, compose Team and Travel Party Manuals for bowl games, arrange visits for our players and Coach Snyder to senior assisted living groups, coordinate Pro Scouts visits and pretty much anything that anyone asks me to do! What is your favorite part of working at K-State Football? I truly love every aspect of my job but watching the boys come through our program and leave as young men is very rewarding. I love working with all of the coaches – they’re all great men and work very hard. What is a favorite memory you have? I have been to 15 bowl games, and they have all been awesome, but the first one, the 1993 Copper Bowl, was probably my favorite. It was so great to beat Wyoming in the Arizona dessert with thousands of K-State fans cheering. • 6. By Emily Brannon Within the expansion, what will benefit the players and coaches the most? The players will have access to a larger locker room, weight room, and training room. There will be state of the art water therapy. Also, there will be a great fueling station that will provide easy access to nutrition. What was the formerVanier Football Complex in need of most that will be upgraded with the new complex? Space. The new facility will provide a great new look and much more space for the players. Whataresomenewopportunitiesthatwillcomewiththenewcomplex? This will enhance our recruiting process. With as many new facilities that have gone up in our conference, this will get us back in the ball park. With increased space, a new look and enhanced technologies we will be able to provide a great experience. Howwillthenewfacilitycomparewithothers in the Big 12 and nation wide? This facility will put us in the upper echelon of schools. What are you looking forward to most in the future for K-State football through this expansion? The most important aspects are having the facilities to provide a great learning, health and physical environment that is occupied by caring and knowledgeable people. The increased size and technologies will help with this. • 7. What was your favorite part about playing at Kansas State? Max: All of it. My junior year when we actually could have gone to a bowl game if we had beat KU. I liked working with a lot of great kids that worked really hard that put in 100% effort, even though a lot of the time we were undermanned and undergunned. I also met my wife who was a cheerleader at Kansas State. Don: It was such an overwhelming thing that I even got to play for Kansas State. I really enjoyed meeting so many boys and staying in the Old Stadium. I met some of my very best friends, Ben Grosse and Les Krull. Meeting them was one of the best experiences I have ever had. What are some experiences you share with your brother through being on the team? Max: He was quite a bit older, but what was fun is when he took me to go to the training table with him before I was on the team. We got to eat all we wanted. We are from the country and our family had six kids so we were glad to get to eat all that we wanted. We both keep in touch with teammates we had while playing at Kansas State. I had a brother that played at Nebraska and we could have played against each other but I was red shirted here at Kansas State that year. Don: When I got out of college I began farming and I didn’t get to go to many of Max’s games, but yes, the training table was always a good place to eat.   What is it like being Golden Cat members together? Max: Once and a while in the fall we go to games together and we go to Cat Town sometimes. Don: Being able to go back and see both older and younger players is always a special occasion. I never intended on going to college , but I got a scholarship to K-State. School was hard and momma didn’t let me quit. I graduated with a major in Biology and Agriculture.   What did you learn from being on the team? Max: Probably a no-quit attitude, that is what makes people successful. Just don’t quit and that’s all there is to it. It’s easy to quit, but it doesn’t do you any good. Keep plugging away, it’s not always easy but it will do you some good. You have to have a lot of self discipline and keep ahead with stuff, I had to keep ahead in school and not let anything get in the way. Don: Hard work, perseverance, and a never give up attitude. It was tough, but I never gave up. We didn’t win a lot of them, but we gave them all that we had. Being a guard at 160 lbs I had to give it all I had. • 8. Before coming to Kansas State, Morgan Burns attended Trinity High School in Wichita, KS. He was rated the number 14 player in the state of Kansas by Rivals.com in 2011. He was a three-time, all-league pick at both the defensive back and running back positions. Over his final two high school seasons, Morgan rushed for 2,700 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. Morgan, who is majoring in Communications Studies, has been a large factor on both defense and special teams. He started 12 games in 2014, finishing 6th on the team with 55 tackles, tying second with three interceptions and tallying seven pass breakups. Morgan excelled in the return game averaging 30.7 yards per return and returned a kickoff of 86 yards for a touchdown against Oklahoma State. Morgan, who has been voted a player representative for the 2015 season will look to continue his success during his senior year. Family is something that has always meant a lot to Morgan, whether it was his biological family or the K-State family. This season, Morgan will get to share his K-State family with his younger brother, Tyler Burns, who has committed to K-State as a grey shirt freshman on the team. Morgan says,“I am so excited that he will be here this summer and we can live and work out together. Hopefully we can get closer and I can help him out the best way I can!” Besides school and football commitments, Morgan likes to stay very active around campus with friends.“I like to read, play basketball, sand volleyball, hangout with friends and when I have the time, I like to do some hiking in the mountains if I can.” Morgan has also been very actively involved in the campus ministry, STUMO (Student Mobilization).“I have met some of my best friends at STUMO and it has taught me how to be a leader and how to grow in character, which is huge for any football player or person who is trying to lead.” Since Morgan will be graduating in December, he says,“I’ll see what football may hold for me and I want to look into different full time ministry opportunities: pastoral ministry, college ministries or go overseas.” As Morgan reflects on his time at Kansas State so far he says, “My biggest inspiration is just being around the guys... I truly love the players on the team!” Morgan Burns DefensiveBack#33 Wichita, KS By Samantha Chlebicki & Emily Brannon Player SpotlightPlayer Spotlight
  • 9. What are your thoughts on spring ball and having the spring game in Kansas City? KC: We lost a couple of key pieces but I think that we have more than people realize. I’m excited to see what the young guys coming in will do. I’m excited for it. This is probably the most excited that I have been for spring ball. DC: I’m excited, especially having it at Sporting Park. That will be really cool. JL: I’m really looking forward to spring ball, I think that we have a lot of guys working hard. It’s going to be really cool having it in Kansas City because that’s a world class facility, so that will be really cool! MB: I think we have a lot of big fans out in that part of town, in Kansas City. What is your favorite part of footballl? KC: Every Saturday, being in front of 50,000 of the most passionate fans. I mean, our fan base is awesome. Especially our student section, I think, is the most passionate. They’re loud, they’re always there. I look forward to every Saturday because they make it that much better. JL: I really like the day to day stuff and just being with the guys, just the camaraderie and the togetherness; Some of my best friends are on the team, guys that I’ll probably be in contact with for the rest of my life. When we are doing actual football stuff, we’re serious, but when we’re not, we’re just messing around and stuff. Putting our hard work out there on Saturdays for the fans to see is really cool too. MB: I think I enjoy just being known. I can go somewhere and someone will be like,“Hey! Marquel!”and it’s cool because I can sit around and hold a conversation with anybody. Kids truly appreciate you and what you do. I met a kid during season and he just wanted me to sign something for his dad who was in the hospital and I didn’t have anything to sign for him at the time, so I had him call his dad and I got to talk to him and everything. It’s just the fact that it means so much to them. To me, I’m just a guy who puts on shoulder pads every day. It’s nothing. I’m not anyone too special, but it means that much to a kid and that’s something that he’ll remember the rest of his life. DC: Growing up 30 minutes down the road, as a kid, I was here every Saturday and I remember a first grade field trip, we came and toured K-State and my mom has pictures from when we were down on the field. I guess when I was little, I told my mom,“Mom, I’m going to play on this field one day.”I guess it’s just my dream to be playing here, I’m actually doing what I’ve always wanted to do. KC: I can vouch for that too. Growing up, I was always a K-State fan and now that we’re actually getting to live our dream on Saturday Interview done on: March 4, 2015 Jason Lierz OffensiveLine#59 Manhattan, KS Marquel Bryant DefensiveEnd#45 Dallas,TX Dalton Converse LongSnapper#46 Clay Center, KS Locker RoomTalkLocker RoomTalk Kody Cook WideReceiver#19 Louisburg, KS By: Samantha Chlebicki
