Darlington
KFAMoves Darlington raised £100 for the Alzheimer's Society by doing a 6 mile walk circumnavigating
Newton Aycliffe, taken by 7 ladies, at a charge of £5.00 each, with the remainder of the amount being
made up of donations from current active and past honorary members who could not participate, as well
as a donation from Branch funds. Margaret Howe led the walk through the attractive features of the area
where she lives. The route we took is a designated walk through Newton Aycliffe and was designed to
take in the town's natural environment. It is beautifully situated, with the streams, trees and wildlife that
we passed along. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre it encompasses a lake, carrying
on over the famous Blue Bridge, which I had never been over (only under), on through a wood to the
nature reserve where you can observe the great crested newts. We lunched in Stephenson's Park,
continued up through the plantation, before completing our circular journey back to Aycliffe Railway
Station set below Oakleaf Leisure Centre.
