Purpose:
One of the objectives to achieve our learning outcomes is:
Understanding the ethical issues related to business communication.
Therefore, students will choose a study in their concentration, completed between 2014-2019,
based on an ethical issue in their business concentration.
Students will, read, summarize and paraphrase the study.
Rationale:
In the professional world, one is often charged with summarizing research or other professional
publication for an employer/supervisor etc. to present at a meeting or conference. Or, one may
have to present a summary of a study in their own words. The practice is to directly and
purposefully apply the professional writing skills practiced in the midterm and to avoid any issue
of plagiarism in a professional career.
Assignment time frame, five weeks. Final version due 11/24/19-We don’t want to work into
the Fall Recess.
• Selection and reading of research, two weeks.
Starting with the Outline, all drafts will be submitted in the fully formatted
document.
• 10/29/19-Outline due (formatted document with selected study accessible);
Therefore, research selection must be approved and complete.
• 11/5/19-Reading completion and paraphrasing examples in draft one due.
• 11/19/18-Draft two due all sections drafted, summarized and paraphrased.

Now that you have selected a topic, created an outline, and completed a rough draft, you will submit the final copy of your Research Paper. Below you will find detailed instructions for what needs to be included in each section of your paper as well as the details on the formatting.
Research Paper Guidelines
· Length of Paper: A minimum of 5 pages, excluding the title page, abstract, table of contents, reference list, and appendices.
· References: A minimum of 5 primary references and 5 biblical references. All references must be cited in the body of the paper and included in the reference list. Biblical references are only cited in text.
· Formatting: The paper must use 12-point, Times New Roman font and be double-spaced with 1-inch margins. The paper must follow current APA format.
Content
· Title Page: The title must be short and to the point. If the title is more than one line, double-space between the lines. The page header and page number appear at the top right of the title page. The title of the paper is centered on the page. Your name appears 1 double-space below the title. Your institutional affiliation appears 1 double-space below your name, then the course number and title 1 double-space below that. The running head must be in the upper right-hand corner.
· Abstract: A synopsis or executive summary of your project that also describes the purpose of the project and what it accomplishes.
· Introduction: A statement of your approach and assumptions, the background the reader needs to understand your approach, and an explanation of how you intend to address the main issues.
· First Heading: Presents an overview of the history and/or current learning related to the topic, based on literature and electronic sources. It provides the reader with an in-depth understanding regarding the topic.

Overview
A summary/response is a natural consequence of the reading and annotating process. In this type of essay, writers capture the controlling idea and the supporting details of a text and respond by agreeing or disagreeing and then explaining why.
The first step after active reading is writing a summary. Writing summaries is a common practice in college. They pull together the general conclusions and approaches of experts who have done research in a particular subject. Summaries should be written in your own words although you could include short quoted excerpts if you decide the author’s or speaker’s words summarize a point most precisely. Try to use pertinent quotations from the source, working them in gracefully where appropriate. Probably the best way to write a summary is ask yourself the following questions:
--What issues are described, explained or resolved in this work? --What is the controlling idea?
--What are the supporting details?
--What results or conclusions are made?
--What opinion does the author want readers to keep in mind about this topic? --What information does the author use to convince readers?
After you have written your summary, double-check to be sure that all facts you included are correct.

To move from an outline to a draft of a summary, follow these guidelines:
