Argentina Qualify 2018 World Cup
Argentina got the win they
were hoping for last night Tuesday with a
3-1 win over Ecuador and a hat trick from
none other than Messi. Ecuador went 1-0
up first but then Argentina completely
turned the game around quickly when
Di Maria passed the ball across to Messi
who scored to make it 1-1. Messi then got
another goal before half time and then
killed the game off with a third goal in the
second half. Due to all of the other results
Argentina automatically got a place in the
2018 world cup and have a good chance of
winning it now I think.
Now that Argentina have qualified for
the 2018 World Cup in Russia they will be
playing lots and lots of friendlies which
will definitely help the team find out their
best team to play so when it actually comes
to the world cup they will be able to play
to the best of their ability and win it. Right
now they are 8/1 to win the World Cup. In
addition to this the International break is
coming up and Argentina have two friend-
lies to play against, they are away at the
hosts of the 2018 World Cup Russia and
then against Nigeria. Both of these match-
es will take place in in the Russian cities
of Moscow and Krasnodar respectively.
Argentina will be looking to win both of
these matches. Unfortunately Icardi is
injured and because of this he will be out
of the Argentina squad. The 24-year-old
will not travel to Russia with his national
team-mates after suffering a knee problem
in Sunday’s draw against Torino, so he
has been forced out of Argentina’s squad
for the upcoming international friendlies
against Russia and Nigeria with a knee
injury. Icardi sustained the knock during
Inter’s 1-1 Serie A draw with Torino on
Sunday, although he completed 90 minutes
and provided the assist for Eder’s equaliser.
Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti later
commended the forward on producing “a
great performance” despite the concern.
But the Argentine Football Association
(AFA) has withdrawn the 24-year-old
due to pain in the patella tendon of his
right knee. Messi has been influential in
orchestrating Argentina’s play since his
early days and took them to final including
2014 world cup final where they lost 1-0
to Germany thanks to Mario Gotze’s extra
time winner. The Argetnina crowd and
players where dishearted. It was hard for
them to bounce back from this.

Koeman Record Not Good
Enough for Toffees
R
onald Koeman, who signed a three
year contract at Everton in the Sum-
mer of 2016, has just been sacked
16 months later, with Everton lying in the
bottom .
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri
lauded Koeman as a star manager in an
interview with Talksport in November 2016.
Koeman had bought into the project at Ever-
ton with spending promised, a new stadium
on the horizon and the aim to get Everton
challenging for a Champions League place
in the period of his contract. Koeman had
signed from Southampton who he had taken
to 8th and 7th place finishes in his two years
at the club.
Koeman took over a team which had
finished 11th in the two proceeding seasons.
With a failed transfer window in the Summer
of 2016 Koeman was essentially dealing with
a squad left over from the Roberto Martinez
era. After an initial early bounce with four
wins and two draws Everton went into a
slump leading to a nadir of a 3-2 defeat at
Watford in December were Koeman finally
seemed to make his mind up on a number of
players left over from the Martinez regime.
Following yet another derby defeat on the
17th of December at Goodison, Everton’s
home form was transformed, new sign-
ings Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola
Lookman came into the club in the January
window and Everton more or less swept
everyone aside at Goodison in the 2nd half
of the season, scoring bags of goals fired on
by Romelu Lukaku. We finished the season
in 7th position and earned a place in the
3rd qualifying round of the Europa League.
European football had been secured, plans
for a new stadium on the Banks of the Royal
Blue Mersey and the promise to have a real
go in the up and coming Summer Transfer
window seemed to point to a bright future
for the toffees. But was it all what it seemed?
As pointed out the home form in Koe-
man’s first season was brilliant winning 13,
drawing 4 and only losing 2 with 42 goals
banged in along the way, the worry was that
they nearly all came from 25 goal machine
Lukaku. After Rom the next highest scorer
last season was Ross Barkley with 5. But it
was essentially these home wins which got
Everton into 7th place. Away from home
only 4 wins were achieved. The difference
between home form and away form was
startling. Koeman was and is overly cautious
away from home and this has continued into
this season. The last league game Everton
won away from home was at Crystal Palace
on the 14th of January 2016 with a last gasp
winner from Seamus Coleman gaining a 1-0
win. This is quite frankly an appalling record.
Added to this is out quite frankly dis-
graceful record at the 6 teams who Everton
are trying to catch up with if they are ever to
get close to the Champions League places.
No need here to go through our historical
record over the last couple of decades instead
this is Koeman’s away record to date against
these teams at the time of writing.

Proud Moments For
Englishmen In Past
Couple Of Weeks
England’s national football team have
once again qualified for the group stage
knockout phase of a tournament and in this
case it is for the 2018 World Cup which is
going to take place in Russia. After 10 tough
games England managed to gain 26 points
( won 8 of them and only drew twice, no
losses). The group consisted of six teams;
England, Slovakia, Scotland, Slovenia, Lithu-
ania and Malta. Slovakia managed to outplay
Scotland to finish the group as runners up
to England. Some said England didn’t have
any real competition but it turned out to
be tough and full of pure hard work for the
three lions to try and make it out of their
group. Although it looks like England had
it easy and it was just a walk in the park for
them, it weren’t. England had managerial
problems at the start of the campaign when
Sam Allardyce had got sacked after just
one game in charge of a 1-0 win vs slovenia
after a 90 minute winner by Adam Lallana
guaranteed three points. So it was a time
where England were struggling to get a
replacement and find someone who had a
good cv with a good history of managerial
roles. The man to replace Big Sam turned
out to be U21’s manager at the time, Gareth
Southgate. Gareth Southgate an England
international, didn’t really have a good
reputation after short spells at Aston Villa
and Middlesbrough, and most imporatntly
a penalty miss at the European champion-
ships in 1996 which didn’t go down well
with the English crowd. Recently England
haven’t performed in the big competions
such as the 2010 and 2014 world cup, plus
suffered in the latter stages of the 2016
Euros. Pundits and legends of the game
pointed that England team’s have never
had the chemistry between the players and
most of them were just turning up for their
clubs and not country. On the bright side
England have up and coming young talent
such as Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks
who are proving to be stars of the game.
Lewis Hamilton wins
fourth world title at
the Mexican Grand Prix
On the 29th of october, Great Britain’s
Lewis Hamilton managed to secure
his fourth world title at the Mexican Grand
Prix. Although, finishing in ninth place after
a collision with fellow rival Sebastian Vettel
he managed to overcome that situation and
bag his fourth trophy. Over past couple of
years Lewis Hamilton has been showing huge
determination and courage to make it into
the elite group of drivers who have won 4 or
more world titles. Thankfully that has paid
off with hard work and plenty of practise
from the Brit. However, Germany’s Michael
Schumacher still holds the records for the
number of race wins (91) and titles (7). Mr
Schumacher retired at the age of 38 and Lew-
is Hamilton is now 32 years old can he break
the record for the number of titles won. He
has had already broke the record for the
number of pole positions which is a grand
total of 72. That is quite impressive when you
think about it. On the other hand, when you
compare race wins Lewis Hamilton (62) is
not that far off from Michael Schumacher’s
91. This is something that’s getting people
talking about in terms of whether Lewis
Hamilton has a chance or not. There are even
rumours going around that he is to conquer
that by 2020 to become the greatest for-
mula one driver of all time. Well it does
seem so as Schumacher was the same age
as Hamilton (32) when he won his fourth
world title which does make it realistic
for Mr Hamilton to do the impossible
and achieve success at the highest possi-
ble level in terms of world titles won.
England’s once again
off to a tournament
Mo Farah Nominated Yet
For Another Award
The 34 year old veteran has grown with
success over the past couple of years and
has managed to bag gold medals every-
where he has been. The Four time gold
medalist retired from track racing and
decided to put all his energy into running
in marathons after securing gold in the
10,000m and silver in the 5000m at the
world champions back in august. Mr Far-
ah has also said that he intends to spend
more time with his family, 3 daughters and
his wife who rarely got to see him before
as he was always away either on camping
preparing for a race or doing TV work
which also requires you going away from
your family. Mo Farah has been travelling
his whole life, of course he was born in
Somalia and came to England when he was
young so he is used to adapting to different
enviroments as he struggled when he first
came to England. It weren’t easy for him
and his family as money was a problem
back then so he had to graft and put the
work in order for him and his family to
have an organised life with both money
and shelter. Somalia has a reputation of
being one of the poorest countries in the
world so if you were poor then you were in
agony, but if you were rich then your life
was sorted and you had no problems. Mo
Farah grew up with these circumstances, as
he was born from a poor family who made
sure to give Mo the best opportunity in
order to succeed in life. That was when Mo
had a love for running and found his talent
in that particular activity/sport.

Dewi Griffiths the new moti-
vation for British athletes
Dewi Griffiths marked his debut by
running a marathon in the fastest time
by a British athlete since 2014 which is
outstanding and a huge motivation for
the athletes of Great Britain. Griffiths is a
Welshman and age at 26 he finished fifth
in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:09’49. He
is in fact the quickest Briton, a person
of British descent. Over the 26.2-mile
distance since Mo Farah in 2014. And is
now second to Steve Jones in the all-time
Welsh rankings. So far this year Griffiths
has also set personal bests over 3,000m,
5,000m, 10,000m and half marathon. The
actual event was won by Ethiopian Shura
Kitata Tola in a time of 2:05’50 with
compatriots Kelkile Gezahegn Woldare-
gay and Getu Feleke Zegeye who placed
second and third.
“After the run [half-marathon] in Cardiff,
I thought I’d give it a go,” said Griffiths,
“I was running in the second group in
Frankfurt and they were going faster than
planned but it didn’t faze me. I got to 30k
and I was on 2:07 pace, got to 35k and
was still on for low 2:08.”
Dewi Griffiths the new motivation for
British athletes
Dewi Griffiths hopes that Sunday’s 2017
Cardiff Half Marathon will prove to be
his strongest yet and that will he will
perform better than all of his previous
run .The event is the UK’s second largest
half-marathon just behind the Great
North Run. This year there is a record
25,000 runners which will be taking
part this year. Three-time Welsh half
marathon champion Griffiths finished
seventh at the Great North Run this year
and is aiming for another personal best
in Sunday’s race in the 2017 Cardiff half
marathon.
“I’ve had a good summer,” the 26-year-
old told BBC Sport Wales.
“I started with a 10k PB, nailing the
Commonwealth standard first go out.
“Then I ended the summer with PBs over
5k and 3k and I shocked myself with how
easy those times felt.
“My aims (for this weekend) are pretty
simple really. I think I can go even quick-
er than I did in the Great North Run.”
After several fun runs and the wheelchair
race, a strong elite field will line up for
Sunday’s 13.1 mile event. It includes Er-
itrea’s Hiskel Tewelde - who raced in the
5,000m at the 2016 Olympic Games - and
Kenyan Violah Jepchumba - the fifth fast-
est woman in history over half-marathon
distance. Also joining Griffiths will be fel-
low Welshmen Josh Griffiths and Andrew
Davies, who represented Great Britain at
last summer’s 2017 World Championship
marathon in London.
“I hope it will be a battle (with them),”
said Dewi Griffiths. “I know I’m in PB
shape and if it’s a battle it means they’ll be
running PBs too.
“It’s nice for Wales to have competition.
These are two guys who ran at the World
Championships, so hopefully we can
push each other to another level again.”
And Welsh runner Dewi Griffiths did
not disappoint at all! He is delighted after
running a personal best in the Cardiff
Half Marathon on Sunday.
He has high hopes of acheiving the life
goals as Mo Farah who has so far won 4
olympics medals. In a recent interview
he told reporters that that ‘all my life I
have been working up till this point and
I dont want to stop now as it everything
I’ve done is for my family and the future
of my kids’. Dewi is one to look out for
the future and is on his way to conquer
England. I have high hopes for him.
Tyrone Inspires Leyton
To A Victorious 4-2 win
against The Reds
Tyrone strolling celebration after a
frustrating first 30 minutes which
was then turned around after his goal
and then expanded by his magnificent
free kick.
Leyton bounced back in an emphatic
way after their disappointing start to
the season with a 4-2 win over the reds
which the captain Tyrone scored twice
to inspire the victory. Leyton started
on the front foot winning all the key
battles in the midfield which ultimately
lead to the first goal that came from a
run of play where the defender Kieran
converted it home from close range.
They had to peform in this way be-
cause if they didnt, they were in serious
risk of embarrasement and thats the
worst thing that could of happened.
Bobby broke the deadlock with him
finding himself with a numerous
amount of free space in the box which he
slotted it through the keepers’ legs.
After a shocking 30 minutes, Tyrone
turned his game around with a great 1 on
1 finish after being played in through on
goal by Jeffrey.
The reds pulled a goal back early in the
second half to give the away side a glim-
mer of hope.
Shortly after that in the second half,
Tyrone struck a magnificent free kick
right into the top left corner of the goal. It
was simply astonishing and not saveable.
This practically sealed the game for the
home side.
In the last minute of normal time Leyton
were awarded a penalty in which Bobby
finished a pleasing entertaining perfor-
mance from Leyton.
Overall, it was a well earned and des-
rerved win for the lions and hopefully we
can see them put in these types of perfor-
mance more often than occasionally be-
cause this season we really have not seen
this from Leyton. They have some tough
fixtures coming up next so they need to
be mentally and physically prepared for
the battles they are about to face,
“ I am happy with the final results after my
shocking start to the game. My first touch
was poor,my sprinting was not on point,my
head just was just not in the game. I thought
to myself, I am the captian,I have to set
standard for the entire team so as soon as i
became confident”

Monoux Steal A Late Goal
Which Lead To Their Glori-
ous Local Derby WinMonoux celebrate a late winner over
there local rivals Leyton which was an
emphatic 1-2 passing move which that
lead to a fantastic goal and ultimately
Leyton’s downfall.
On the 20th of September Monoux
college beat Leyton Sixth Form 2-1 on a
decisive match that just had to be won.
A stunning free kick from Monoux just
told us all that they weren’t just coming
to make up the numbers as they had
tricks up their sleeves to punish LSC. It
was a harsh result for the host’s as they
had plenty of the ball and created enough
chances to rescue the draw or at least the
win. However, Monoux turned out to be
the better team at the end and managed
to strive on to grab a win with 2 away
goals. LSC will now focus on their next
game and will surely come back with
hunger and determination to put this
defeat behind and focus on the rest of
the season. LSC have really had a poor
start to this season and after the back end
of last season winning season they are
expected to win these game and to start
better.
Brady stuns Leyton with a powerful free
kick that dipped right in front of the
goalkeeper which was not saveable and
lead to Monoux taking the lead.
Brady gave Monoux the lead with a
breath taking free kick which stunned
everybody watching the match. He struck
the ball with precision technique and
power and therefore was not saveable.
Although of this Leyton started to get
in the game and started applying pres-
sure which lead to creating a numerous
amount of chances that they squandered.
Leyton came out of the blocks very fast
in the second half and deservedly won a
penalty that Mo calmly converted. many
people at this point thought it was the
start of a comeback.
Leyton had more possession of the ball
but Monoux were many much in control
of the game and you never really thought
they were ever going to break down
Monoux.
As Leyton became even more desperate
because the game was coming towards
its end they started pushing more players
forward. They were caught on a devas-
tating counter attack that lead to a 1-2
which Marcus finished from close range
which left Leyton undone.
Leyton had one last chance which was
crossed in by Tyrone but Bobby head-
ed over and the final whistle was then
LSC have been tiumphant for the
past 2 seasons claiming the tiltle
bck to back but for some reason this
year, they have not gott into first gear
which is surprising and strange after
the wonderful foootball they were
playing last season. The dip inform
amazes everyone and this local derby
just sums it up. Maybe they cant get
over the line in big games because
last year in this fixture, they were
defeated by 3 golas to 1 and they just
lack the key components in doing
well in the big games. They really
need to take a hard look at them-
eselves after the defeat, work extrem-
ly hard in training if they want to
compete with the very best because
right now they are far from that and
if they dont turn this form around,
this could be come one of the worst
seasons in the history of LSC. I do
feel as if they will improve though

  • 4. Hatrick hero Messi sends Argentina to World Cup Argentina Qualify 2018 World Cup Argentina got the win they were hoping for last night Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Ecuador and a hat trick from none other than Messi. Ecuador went 1-0 up first but then Argentina completely turned the game around quickly when Di Maria passed the ball across to Messi who scored to make it 1-1. Messi then got another goal before half time and then killed the game off with a third goal in the second half. Due to all of the other results Argentina automatically got a place in the 2018 world cup and have a good chance of winning it now I think. Now that Argentina have qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia they will be playing lots and lots of friendlies which will definitely help the team find out their best team to play so when it actually comes to the world cup they will be able to play to the best of their ability and win it. Right now they are 8/1 to win the World Cup. In addition to this the International break is coming up and Argentina have two friend- lies to play against, they are away at the hosts of the 2018 World Cup Russia and then against Nigeria. Both of these match- es will take place in in the Russian cities of Moscow and Krasnodar respectively. Argentina will be looking to win both of these matches. Unfortunately Icardi is injured and because of this he will be out of the Argentina squad. The 24-year-old will not travel to Russia with his national team-mates after suffering a knee problem in Sunday’s draw against Torino, so he has been forced out of Argentina’s squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Russia and Nigeria with a knee injury. Icardi sustained the knock during Inter’s 1-1 Serie A draw with Torino on Sunday, although he completed 90 minutes and provided the assist for Eder’s equaliser. Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti later commended the forward on producing “a great performance” despite the concern. But the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has withdrawn the 24-year-old due to pain in the patella tendon of his right knee. Messi has been influential in orchestrating Argentina’s play since his early days and took them to final including 2014 world cup final where they lost 1-0 to Germany thanks to Mario Gotze’s extra time winner. The Argetnina crowd and players where dishearted. It was hard for them to bounce back from this. PG 3 By Thaddeus O’Connor World Cup 2018: Messi hat-trick overcomes tough Ecuadorian opposition to send Argentina to Russia with a 3-1 victory.
  • 5. Koeman Record Not Good Enough for Toffees R onald Koeman, who signed a three year contract at Everton in the Sum- mer of 2016, has just been sacked 16 months later, with Everton lying in the bottom . Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri lauded Koeman as a star manager in an interview with Talksport in November 2016. Koeman had bought into the project at Ever- ton with spending promised, a new stadium on the horizon and the aim to get Everton challenging for a Champions League place in the period of his contract. Koeman had signed from Southampton who he had taken to 8th and 7th place finishes in his two years at the club. Koeman took over a team which had finished 11th in the two proceeding seasons. With a failed transfer window in the Summer of 2016 Koeman was essentially dealing with a squad left over from the Roberto Martinez era. After an initial early bounce with four wins and two draws Everton went into a slump leading to a nadir of a 3-2 defeat at Watford in December were Koeman finally seemed to make his mind up on a number of players left over from the Martinez regime. Following yet another derby defeat on the 17th of December at Goodison, Everton’s home form was transformed, new sign- ings Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman came into the club in the January window and Everton more or less swept everyone aside at Goodison in the 2nd half of the season, scoring bags of goals fired on by Romelu Lukaku. We finished the season in 7th position and earned a place in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League. European football had been secured, plans for a new stadium on the Banks of the Royal Blue Mersey and the promise to have a real go in the up and coming Summer Transfer window seemed to point to a bright future for the toffees. But was it all what it seemed? As pointed out the home form in Koe- man’s first season was brilliant winning 13, drawing 4 and only losing 2 with 42 goals banged in along the way, the worry was that they nearly all came from 25 goal machine Lukaku. After Rom the next highest scorer last season was Ross Barkley with 5. But it was essentially these home wins which got Everton into 7th place. Away from home only 4 wins were achieved. The difference between home form and away form was startling. Koeman was and is overly cautious away from home and this has continued into this season. The last league game Everton won away from home was at Crystal Palace on the 14th of January 2016 with a last gasp winner from Seamus Coleman gaining a 1-0 win. This is quite frankly an appalling record. Added to this is out quite frankly dis- graceful record at the 6 teams who Everton are trying to catch up with if they are ever to get close to the Champions League places. No need here to go through our historical record over the last couple of decades instead this is Koeman’s away record to date against these teams at the time of writing. PG 4 By Thaddeus O’Connor PREMIER League: With Everton in the bottom three Koeman is sacked after 16 months having spent 250 million on flops.
  • 6. Proud Moments For Englishmen In Past Couple Of Weeks England’s national football team have once again qualified for the group stage knockout phase of a tournament and in this case it is for the 2018 World Cup which is going to take place in Russia. After 10 tough games England managed to gain 26 points ( won 8 of them and only drew twice, no losses). The group consisted of six teams; England, Slovakia, Scotland, Slovenia, Lithu- ania and Malta. Slovakia managed to outplay Scotland to finish the group as runners up to England. Some said England didn’t have any real competition but it turned out to be tough and full of pure hard work for the three lions to try and make it out of their group. Although it looks like England had it easy and it was just a walk in the park for them, it weren’t. England had managerial problems at the start of the campaign when Sam Allardyce had got sacked after just one game in charge of a 1-0 win vs slovenia after a 90 minute winner by Adam Lallana guaranteed three points. So it was a time where England were struggling to get a replacement and find someone who had a good cv with a good history of managerial roles. The man to replace Big Sam turned out to be U21’s manager at the time, Gareth Southgate. Gareth Southgate an England international, didn’t really have a good reputation after short spells at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, and most imporatntly a penalty miss at the European champion- ships in 1996 which didn’t go down well with the English crowd. Recently England haven’t performed in the big competions such as the 2010 and 2014 world cup, plus suffered in the latter stages of the 2016 Euros. Pundits and legends of the game pointed that England team’s have never had the chemistry between the players and most of them were just turning up for their clubs and not country. On the bright side England have up and coming young talent such as Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks who are proving to be stars of the game. Lewis Hamilton wins fourth world title at the Mexican Grand Prix On the 29th of october, Great Britain’s Lewis Hamilton managed to secure his fourth world title at the Mexican Grand Prix. Although, finishing in ninth place after a collision with fellow rival Sebastian Vettel he managed to overcome that situation and bag his fourth trophy. Over past couple of years Lewis Hamilton has been showing huge determination and courage to make it into the elite group of drivers who have won 4 or more world titles. Thankfully that has paid off with hard work and plenty of practise from the Brit. However, Germany’s Michael Schumacher still holds the records for the number of race wins (91) and titles (7). Mr Schumacher retired at the age of 38 and Lew- is Hamilton is now 32 years old can he break the record for the number of titles won. He has had already broke the record for the number of pole positions which is a grand total of 72. That is quite impressive when you think about it. On the other hand, when you compare race wins Lewis Hamilton (62) is not that far off from Michael Schumacher’s 91. This is something that’s getting people talking about in terms of whether Lewis Hamilton has a chance or not. There are even rumours going around that he is to conquer that by 2020 to become the greatest for- mula one driver of all time. Well it does seem so as Schumacher was the same age as Hamilton (32) when he won his fourth world title which does make it realistic for Mr Hamilton to do the impossible and achieve success at the highest possi- ble level in terms of world titles won. England’s once again off to a tournament Mo Farah Nominated Yet For Another Award The 34 year old veteran has grown with success over the past couple of years and has managed to bag gold medals every- where he has been. The Four time gold medalist retired from track racing and decided to put all his energy into running in marathons after securing gold in the 10,000m and silver in the 5000m at the world champions back in august. Mr Far- ah has also said that he intends to spend more time with his family, 3 daughters and his wife who rarely got to see him before as he was always away either on camping preparing for a race or doing TV work which also requires you going away from your family. Mo Farah has been travelling his whole life, of course he was born in Somalia and came to England when he was young so he is used to adapting to different enviroments as he struggled when he first came to England. It weren’t easy for him and his family as money was a problem back then so he had to graft and put the work in order for him and his family to have an organised life with both money and shelter. Somalia has a reputation of being one of the poorest countries in the world so if you were poor then you were in agony, but if you were rich then your life was sorted and you had no problems. Mo Farah grew up with these circumstances, as he was born from a poor family who made sure to give Mo the best opportunity in order to succeed in life. That was when Mo had a love for running and found his talent in that particular activity/sport. PG 5

  • 8. PG 7 Dewi Griffiths the new moti- vation for British athletes Dewi Griffiths marked his debut by running a marathon in the fastest time by a British athlete since 2014 which is outstanding and a huge motivation for the athletes of Great Britain. Griffiths is a Welshman and age at 26 he finished fifth in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:09’49. He is in fact the quickest Briton, a person of British descent. Over the 26.2-mile distance since Mo Farah in 2014. And is now second to Steve Jones in the all-time Welsh rankings. So far this year Griffiths has also set personal bests over 3,000m, 5,000m, 10,000m and half marathon. The actual event was won by Ethiopian Shura Kitata Tola in a time of 2:05’50 with compatriots Kelkile Gezahegn Woldare- gay and Getu Feleke Zegeye who placed second and third. “After the run [half-marathon] in Cardiff, I thought I’d give it a go,” said Griffiths, “I was running in the second group in Frankfurt and they were going faster than planned but it didn’t faze me. I got to 30k and I was on 2:07 pace, got to 35k and was still on for low 2:08.” Dewi Griffiths the new motivation for British athletes Dewi Griffiths hopes that Sunday’s 2017 Cardiff Half Marathon will prove to be his strongest yet and that will he will perform better than all of his previous run .The event is the UK’s second largest half-marathon just behind the Great North Run. This year there is a record 25,000 runners which will be taking part this year. Three-time Welsh half marathon champion Griffiths finished seventh at the Great North Run this year and is aiming for another personal best in Sunday’s race in the 2017 Cardiff half marathon. “I’ve had a good summer,” the 26-year- old told BBC Sport Wales. “I started with a 10k PB, nailing the Commonwealth standard first go out. “Then I ended the summer with PBs over 5k and 3k and I shocked myself with how easy those times felt. “My aims (for this weekend) are pretty simple really. I think I can go even quick- er than I did in the Great North Run.” After several fun runs and the wheelchair race, a strong elite field will line up for Sunday’s 13.1 mile event. It includes Er- itrea’s Hiskel Tewelde - who raced in the 5,000m at the 2016 Olympic Games - and Kenyan Violah Jepchumba - the fifth fast- est woman in history over half-marathon distance. Also joining Griffiths will be fel- low Welshmen Josh Griffiths and Andrew Davies, who represented Great Britain at last summer’s 2017 World Championship marathon in London. “I hope it will be a battle (with them),” said Dewi Griffiths. “I know I’m in PB shape and if it’s a battle it means they’ll be running PBs too. “It’s nice for Wales to have competition. These are two guys who ran at the World Championships, so hopefully we can push each other to another level again.” And Welsh runner Dewi Griffiths did not disappoint at all! He is delighted after running a personal best in the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday. He has high hopes of acheiving the life goals as Mo Farah who has so far won 4 olympics medals. In a recent interview he told reporters that that ‘all my life I have been working up till this point and I dont want to stop now as it everything I’ve done is for my family and the future of my kids’. Dewi is one to look out for the future and is on his way to conquer England. I have high hopes for him.

  • 10. Tyrone Inspires Leyton To A Victorious 4-2 win against The Reds Tyrone strolling celebration after a frustrating first 30 minutes which was then turned around after his goal and then expanded by his magnificent free kick. Leyton bounced back in an emphatic way after their disappointing start to the season with a 4-2 win over the reds which the captain Tyrone scored twice to inspire the victory. Leyton started on the front foot winning all the key battles in the midfield which ultimately lead to the first goal that came from a run of play where the defender Kieran converted it home from close range. They had to peform in this way be- cause if they didnt, they were in serious risk of embarrasement and thats the worst thing that could of happened. Bobby broke the deadlock with him finding himself with a numerous amount of free space in the box which he slotted it through the keepers’ legs. After a shocking 30 minutes, Tyrone turned his game around with a great 1 on 1 finish after being played in through on goal by Jeffrey. The reds pulled a goal back early in the second half to give the away side a glim- mer of hope. Shortly after that in the second half, Tyrone struck a magnificent free kick right into the top left corner of the goal. It was simply astonishing and not saveable. This practically sealed the game for the home side. In the last minute of normal time Leyton were awarded a penalty in which Bobby finished a pleasing entertaining perfor- mance from Leyton. Overall, it was a well earned and des- rerved win for the lions and hopefully we can see them put in these types of perfor- mance more often than occasionally be- cause this season we really have not seen this from Leyton. They have some tough fixtures coming up next so they need to be mentally and physically prepared for the battles they are about to face, “ I am happy with the final results after my shocking start to the game. My first touch was poor,my sprinting was not on point,my head just was just not in the game. I thought to myself, I am the captian,I have to set standard for the entire team so as soon as i became confident” PG 9

PG 10 Monoux Steal A Late Goal Which Lead To Their Glori- ous Local Derby WinMonoux celebrate a late winner over there local rivals Leyton which was an emphatic 1-2 passing move which that lead to a fantastic goal and ultimately Leyton’s downfall. On the 20th of September Monoux college beat Leyton Sixth Form 2-1 on a decisive match that just had to be won. A stunning free kick from Monoux just told us all that they weren’t just coming to make up the numbers as they had tricks up their sleeves to punish LSC. It was a harsh result for the host’s as they had plenty of the ball and created enough chances to rescue the draw or at least the win. However, Monoux turned out to be the better team at the end and managed to strive on to grab a win with 2 away goals. LSC will now focus on their next game and will surely come back with hunger and determination to put this defeat behind and focus on the rest of the season. LSC have really had a poor start to this season and after the back end of last season winning season they are expected to win these game and to start better. Brady stuns Leyton with a powerful free kick that dipped right in front of the goalkeeper which was not saveable and lead to Monoux taking the lead. Brady gave Monoux the lead with a breath taking free kick which stunned everybody watching the match. He struck the ball with precision technique and power and therefore was not saveable. Although of this Leyton started to get in the game and started applying pres- sure which lead to creating a numerous amount of chances that they squandered. Leyton came out of the blocks very fast in the second half and deservedly won a penalty that Mo calmly converted. many people at this point thought it was the start of a comeback. Leyton had more possession of the ball but Monoux were many much in control of the game and you never really thought they were ever going to break down Monoux. As Leyton became even more desperate because the game was coming towards its end they started pushing more players forward. They were caught on a devas- tating counter attack that lead to a 1-2 which Marcus finished from close range which left Leyton undone. Leyton had one last chance which was crossed in by Tyrone but Bobby head- ed over and the final whistle was then LSC have been tiumphant for the past 2 seasons claiming the tiltle bck to back but for some reason this year, they have not gott into first gear which is surprising and strange after the wonderful foootball they were playing last season. The dip inform amazes everyone and this local derby just sums it up. Maybe they cant get over the line in big games because last year in this fixture, they were defeated by 3 golas to 1 and they just lack the key components in doing well in the big games. They really need to take a hard look at them- eselves after the defeat, work extrem- ly hard in training if they want to compete with the very best because right now they are far from that and if they dont turn this form around, this could be come one of the worst seasons in the history of LSC. I do feel as if they will improve though
