Kinesio taping as a new technique in physiotherapyabodoaaandremas
Kinesio Tape is a technique based on the body's natural healing process. It is designed to cause physiological effects on body systems like circulatory, neural, muscular and fascial systems. Kinesio Tape was developed in 1963 in Japan and introduced to the US in the 1990s. It is used by physical therapists and other medical practitioners to reduce pain, relax muscles, improve posture and support muscles. Common applications include injuries to the back, knees, shoulders and other areas. The tape works by lifting skin and creating space for improved lymph and nerve function to aid healing. Contraindications include allergies, infections, diabetes and kidney problems.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by thickening ligaments in the wrist putting pressure on the median nerve, which can lead to nerve damage and loss of feeling in the fingertips. The nerve damage causes the muscle at the base of the thumb to waste away and makes it difficult to grasp objects. Surgical treatment may help relieve pressure on the median nerve for people with MPS I experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms.
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are common and costly workplace injuries that affect muscles, nerves, tendons and joints. Examples include carpal tunnel syndrome and lower back pain. MSDs can be prevented by maintaining neutral postures through properly adjusting workstations and equipment to fit each individual. This involves keeping the wrists straight, elbows bent at 90 degrees, monitor at eye level, and using chairs, keyboards and mice in ways that avoid extreme motions or positions. Taking frequent breaks and varying tasks can also help reduce injury risk.
This document discusses elbow pain, its causes, and treatments. It defines the elbow joint and describes common injuries like tendinitis, fractures, and nerve entrapment that can cause elbow pain. It explains that tendinitis is usually treated with ice, rest, and anti-inflammatory medication, while more severe issues like infections or tumors may require surgery. The summary concludes by noting the elbow can be rehabilitated through conservative treatments like exercises and activity modifications prescribed by an occupational therapist.
This document discusses the anatomy and function of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDF) in horses. It notes that the SDF originates from the femur and inserts on the phalanges. The SDF acts to flex the fetlock and is part of the suspensory apparatus. Injuries to the SDF, such as tendonitis, are common in sport horses and racehorses due to repetitive strain. Symptoms of SDF injuries include lameness, swelling, and the appearance of a bowed tendon. Treatment involves rest, anti-inflammatories, icing, and in some cases surgery.

Understanding the Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments for Sciaticalspineinstitute
Sciatica is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve, which originates in the lower back and extends down the leg. Common causes include degenerative disc disease, facet disease, osteophytes, and spinal stenosis. Symptoms include pain in one or both legs as well as numbness and tingling. Treatment begins with diagnosing the underlying cause through imaging and physical exams. Initial treatment focuses on non-invasive options like medication, exercise, and alternative therapies. Surgery may be considered if more serious conditions are causing nerve compression.
Cranial sacral therapy is a gentle manual therapy that uses light touch to decompress the bones of the head and spine, releasing tension throughout the body. It can alleviate pain from conditions like fibromyalgia and injuries. During treatment, muscles relax and cerebral spinal fluid circulation improves to boost the immune system. Other types use more pressure or target specific distortions to provide full-body relief of pain and dysfunction. A typical session lasts 90 minutes to fully address muscular tensions.
Medicity Hospital in Navi Mumbai provides a wide range of medical and super specialties, including orthopedics, and is well-equipped with modern technology. It offers treatments like spinal fusion surgery, which involves fusing vertebrae together using bone grafts to eliminate pain from abnormal vertebral motion. Common causes of lower back pain like degenerative disc disease involve the discs in the spine wearing down over time. Spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis are other conditions where the spine is narrowed or misaligned, pinching nerves and causing pain.

Every day we work with clients who present with neurological tone which creates a continual challenge for every day activities, positioning, hygiene and feeding. Being able to intervene within the first 3 days post CVA, or any Brain/Spinal Cord Traumatic event, we are able to work with the sometimes destructive forces of tone to maintain muscle tissue length allowing the fullest return to function possible. This presentation will look at why standard orthotic devices do not meet the needs of these clients and how they can often induce episodes of prolonged tone. We will explore why “Flex” technology does work to relax tone, and also go over the “process” of dealing with neurological tone over time to reduce, stop, and reverse the damage that can be caused from shortened tissue. A neurological client’s road to rehabilitation is a long term one, often taking months and even years, in some cases they will need us in one form or another for the rest of their lives. Being able to manage and reduce tonal episodes and keep muscle fibres lengthened allowing freedom of movement and range of motion over this period is vital for our clients quality of life. It is very exciting that with early intervention with the appropriate devices we can enable our clients to grasp life and live it to their fullest.

This document discusses common lumbar spine conditions like disc herniations and spinal stenosis. It provides 5 facts about disc herniations including what causes them, typical symptoms, and treatment options like steroid injections or surgery. It also outlines 5 facts about spinal stenosis including what it is, typical symptoms, and potential surgical treatment. The document seeks to address 3 common misconceptions about spinal fusion surgery, noting risks are low, it is often successful when combined with decompression, and adjacent level degeneration is usually due to preexisting conditions, not the fusion itself.
Dr. Dheeraj Bojwani is a medical consultant who assists patients in receiving spine surgeries in India. Spine surgeries are generally only considered after non-surgical treatments have failed to provide relief over 6-12 months for conditions like spinal stenosis, sciatica, spondylolisthesis or degenerative scoliosis. Common spine surgeries include discectomy, foraminotomy, spine fusion, and spinal disc replacement. India offers high quality spine surgeries at world-class hospitals for costs that are 40-70% lower than procedures in countries like the US or UK. Medical tourists are able to combine their surgical treatment and recovery with vacation time in India's various cities and
Muscle contractures can develop due to paralysis, muscle atrophy, or muscular dystrophy. This causes muscles and tendons to shorten, reducing flexibility. Various interventions like physical therapy or surgery can slow, stop, or reverse muscle contractures. Contractures occur when soft tissues cannot accommodate changes in bone length, so identifying problem muscles is important for effective treatment. Positioning, splinting, electrical stimulation, and other physical therapy techniques can help prevent or treat contractures.

The central nervous system (CNS) coordinates all parts of the body and consists of the brain and spinal cord. It is protected by membranes and bones. The CNS controls behavior and is contained in cavities within the body. Nerve mechanics studies how nerves move and cause pain as the body moves. Nerve mobility is healthy but sensitive nerves can become painful when moving. The nervous system relays messages between the brain and body parts via the spinal cord and branched nerves.
This document discusses common degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine, including disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. It provides details on symptoms, treatments like steroid injections or surgery, and outcomes. It aims to dispel misconceptions about spinal fusion surgery, noting that while risks exist, severe damage is rare and fusion is usually successful when performed for the right reasons. Fusion may not necessarily lead to more problems at adjacent levels in the future. The document includes examples of patients who had good outcomes from fusion surgery for conditions like isthmic spondylolisthesis and post-discectomy.
A 45-year-old woman presented with neck pain and hypertension. She received chiropractic care using Torque Release Technique over 30 visits. This led to improvement in her neck pain and a reduction in her blood pressure to normal levels, as monitored by her medical doctor. Chiropractic care is proposed to help reduce hypertension by correcting vertebral subluxations, which can affect regulatory mechanisms controlling blood pressure.
Persistent back pain is influenced more by psychological factors like thoughts, mood, and lifestyle rather than physical damage. The nervous system can become sensitized, causing pain even after tissues have healed. Adopting an active approach through goal setting and gradual activity can help reverse this sensitization and promote recovery, while fear, inactivity, and catastrophizing thoughts can prolong pain. Understanding these biological and psychological mechanisms empowers people to take positive steps to manage their pain.
This document summarizes a NeuroMOOC student project about his mother's sciatica condition and her treatment journey. It provides background on sciatica, describing it as pain along the sciatic nerve caused by compression from spinal issues like herniated discs. It details his mother's specific case of foraminal stenosis compressing the L5-S1 nerve root. Her treatments of physical therapy, cortisone injections, and planned foraminotomy surgery are explained. The student aims to help his mother understand her condition and treatment options through the knowledge gained in NeuroMOOC.

The human body is a curious thing, to say the least.
It goes through all sorts of changes, some of them good, some of them bad.
The truth is that we are all dying, some of us faster than others, and as we race
toward that inevitable conclusion, our bodies finally begin to degenerate, and as this
happens, we will need to find new ways of taking care of them.
There are numerous conditions that we will need to watch out for, especially if we
plan to remain in good shape for the foreseeable future.
3. What is the Spine?
The spine is a series of bones in the back, made up
of what we call vertebrae, and these work in
connection with the Spinal cords. The nerves
within the spinal cord send important messages to
your entire body, meaning if you end up with a
pinched nerve, the body will start to send
signals, which you interpret as pain. It is very
important that you do not ignore these pains, and
once you start to notice symptoms, you should get
to the doctor immediately.
The spine has a series of discs, and these are filled
with a sort of jelly. When you move, jump, or
run, these discs act as shock absorbers, ensuring
that the vertebrae never actually touch one
another. As time goes by however, these discs will
begin to break down, and you may even suffer from
what are known as pinched nerves.
4. The Causes of a Pinched Nerve
There are many different potential causes of a pinched nerve, generally occurring when
there is pressure placed on the nerves. This pressure may be the result performing
repetitive motions, though it is more likely the product if sitting in one place for too
long. For example, those who work in office buildings will spend a long period of time in
a single position, generally sitting down. In addition to that, there are many who sleep
in the same position each night, and this too will contribute to their nerve issues.
Throughout the body one can find several locations in which nerves travel through the
body, and they are not protected by any consequential tissue. These areas need to be
protected, but over time, compression becomes a stark reality. Pressure or
inflammation on the nerve root can cause serious pain, and it can actually effect the
foot/leg area. In the event this compression lasts for a long period of time, you will find
that the protective barrier surrounding the nerve begins to break down, and this will
cause even more pressure. If your nerves were to become scarred, their normal
functions would be interrupted significantly, making it harder for you to perform
everyday functions.
5. A Minimally Invasive Solution
In the past, spinal surgery was performed as what is called an ‘open surgery’, which
involved a long incision in the back. This incision allowed the surgeon to see exactly
what was inside the patient’s back, and it was much easier to see what was wrong.
Technology however has marched forward, and it is now possible to treat neck
and back conditions using minimally invasive treatment. What does this mean exactly?
-Faster Recovery Time
-Less Risk
-Faster Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery will not require the long incision, meaning a minimal amount
of pain. During the procedure, doctors use a specialized instrument to gain access to the
spine, and they can do so without the fear of causing additional injuries to the spine.
The bottom line here, is that if you were holding off on surgery for fear of the invasive
procedure, then fear no longer. You can have your surgery, and be up and about within
a few weeks, which is considerably better than the alternative.
