This document summarizes recent work from the OECD Environment Directorate relevant to Environet. It discusses five chapters from the OECD publication "Marine Protected Areas: Economics, Management and Effective Policy Mixes" covering good practices, benefits and costs, effective design and management, and sustainable financing of MPAs. Sources of financing for MPAs mentioned include domestic government budgets, external development finance, trust funds, user fees, taxes and fines, subsidies, and payments for ecosystem services. Another OECD publication discussed is "The Political Economy of Biodiversity Policy Reform" which includes a chapter on EU fisheries agreements and financing conservation in Mauritania and Guinea-Bissau.
