The current situation of solid waste management in Syria faces many challenges. Cities produce large amounts of solid waste daily that exceed their abilities to manage. Existing landfills are generally unregulated dumps and require rehabilitation. There is a lack of financial resources, proper infrastructure, and trained staff for effective solid waste management. Some cities have worked with international organizations on projects like transfer stations, composting plants, and landfill rehabilitation. However, more comprehensive and sustainable solutions are still needed across Syria to properly collect, treat, and dispose of solid waste.
