Steps to recycle
1. Collection
2. Segregation
3. Processing
4. Reuse
2
Alternatives
1. Reuse in other ways(craft, decoration,
DIY kits etc.)
2. Reduce(using one time use items)
3. Switch to re-usable conventional and
natural products.(Go green)
3
Ways to collect waste
4
•frequent door-to-door separate collection of food waste (e.g. weekly or
more often depending on the climate and season);
•less frequent collection of mixed waste (e.g. every two weeks);
•door-to-door collection of recyclables (e.g. paper, cardboard, cans,
plastics, glass), individually source separated where public acceptability
allows, otherwise co-mingled and sorted at a material recovery facility;
glass, followed by paper and cardboard, is more often more effectively
collected separately;
•a convenient network of civic amenity sites that accept all waste fractions
not collected door-to-door or in street containers from households,
including hazardous waste and biowaste (e.g. from gardens)
Waste
Segregation
 This is the most vital step which
determines the efficiency of
recycling waste.
 Thus extra care should be given,
appropriate boxes are to be
designed and the public should be
aware and responsible for proper
execution of the same.

Ways to collect
waste according
to type:
6
1. Collect waste in different bins or ask people to
pack each type of waste in different bags before
disposing.
OR
2. Separation of different waste at processing
centres. (this is difficult and includes many
stages and machineries so the first method is
preferred)
6
Processing
The collected waste is sent to
processing plant for recycling.
Then according to the type of waste
it is processed and suitable
derivatives are formed.
7
8
Ways to recycle/ reuse different type of wastes:
9
Glass Organic Electronic
• Process > recycle >
reuse
• Reuse without
processing for
storing, decoration,
gardening etc.
• Converted into
manure using
compost pit
• Can be used as
supplement fodder
• Can be converted into
bio gas fuel.
• Can be recycled at plant,
converted into smaller
versions into reusable
goods.
• Vital useful parts of
devices can be separated
and be later used as
Ways to recycle/ reduce different type of waste: 10
Paper Plastic Metal
• Old papers are
recycled and
reused as packing,
insulating,
newspapers,
covers, bags etc.
• Recycled and reused.
• Containers can also
be converted to
decorative pieces,
handicrafts or as pots
for gardening or
storing.
• Process > recycle >
reuse
• Parts can be
removed and used
as spare.
Reduce

THE BEST ALTERNATIVE
Reduce usage of non-
biodegradable items and
switch to ecofriendly options
Thankyou
