This document provides an introduction to artificial intelligence including definitions, history, types, and applications. It defines AI as making computers think intelligently like humans by studying brain patterns. The history of AI began in the 1940s and 50s with the term being coined in 1956. There are three main types: artificial narrow intelligence which performs single tasks; artificial general intelligence that can learn and think broadly like humans; and artificial super intelligence that is more potent than human intelligence. AI has many important applications and major branches including computer vision, robotics, and learning systems.
