Who are we?
Based in Nottinghamshire, DAS was
created over a decade ago by our
Managing Director Andy Bell and
since then has carved its own place in
the technology landscape by making
the complex incredibly simple.
We began life focused on the TV
industry and played a key role in
turning the UK digital, but now, with
an installation infrastructure that spans
the entire British Isles, we reach
across the whole technology gambit

wholesale operation also sees us

as well as being master installers, we

Why Solar?
Put simply solar
technology is the
conversion of sunlight
into electricity.
The idea has been around for a while and
it has been a popular option for homes in
countries with long sunny days for many
years. Solar PV works by daylight.
For us in the UK though with our
infamously changeable climate it remained
on the margins as a way of generating
power.
Until now that is.
In recent years huge advances in the way
solar panels convert light into electricity
has made the entire process more
efficient, more profitable for the home or
business owner and therefore much more
suitable for the UK.

to how the sun can generate your home or
business power and also make you money!
Sunlight can be converted directly into electricity
using photovoltaics – or PV for short.
Under ideal conditions, Solar panels can
convert about 15% of the sun’s radiation into
electrical power. This is the same electricity we
currently pay increasingly expensive amounts
to draw from the national grid – except this
stuff has been produced for free and with no
environmental impact whatsoever!
The PV panel has come a long way since you
first saw a small version of it on your calculator –
the technology has now developed to become
viable to power entire homes via a PV array,
usually installed on your roof.
But it doesn’t stop there – the chances are
you’ll actually generate much more power than
you need and you can sell this surplus power
back to the national grid! That’s right, you’ll be
sending them a bill rather than the other way
round!
Any structure, ideally with a south facing profile
(but not exclusively so) can be used to mount
a Solar PV array meaning we can turn all sorts
of properties into power and money making
machines from homes, offices and hotels, to
factories, hospitals and leisure centres.
How does solar work?

So let’s get down to the meat of things shall we
– what will you gain from switching to solar?
Well, installing Solar PV

Switching to green energy is one of the
easiest and quickest ways to reduce your
carbon footprint. Solar power is a ‘clean’
energy resource and an average solar
PV system will replace ‘dirty’ fuel sources
and save around 20% of a home’s carbon
footprint per year .

some of its energy supply came from

the surplus electricity you generate back
to the grid, are projected to give you an
annual tax free return of 10-16% on that

break even time of about 7 years.

return is achieved, it is necessary to
explain the government backed scheme
known as the Feed in Tariff.

The Feed-in Tariff Scheme
The feed-in Tariff is a
government regulated initiative
which was introduced in
order to increase levels of
renewable energy in the UK.
The government guarantees payments for
20 years, based on electricity produced and
electricity put back into the grid. Feed-in Tariffs
are paid by electricity suppliers in one of two
ways; either as a direct payment into your bank
account or as a credit line to your energy bills.
These payments are index linked in line with
inflation, tax free.
The Tariffs give you three financial benefits:
A payment for all the electricity you generate,1.
even if you use it yourself
Additional bonus payments for electricity you2.
export into the grid
A reduction on your standard electricity bill,3.
from using energy you produce yourself
For example, installing Solar PV on a three bedroom home with 4kwp
Solar PV panels, occupied around on average half the day would mean:
£766 a year from the Generation Tariff
£111 a year from the Export Tariff
£515 saving on electricity you would
normally buy from a provider
= £1392/year* total income/savings
The above price returns are based on a 4kWp system, south facing, 30% inclination, after 50% usage

So just how does the power of the sun get
harnessed to help make your breakfast?
2 Inverter - The
DC current flows to an
inverter which converts
it into alternating current
AC, which is what we use
in our homes.
3 Generation Meter
and Consumer Unit- From
the inverter, the electricity
flows through a meter to your
consumer unit where it is
connected to the rest of your
home’s electrical system.
4 Mains Electric Meter - This
solar energy powers your home. It’s no
different than the power you get from
the grid, except that it is free and it’s
always used first. If it’s night time, or
there is not enough power from your
panels, then the system seamlessly
switches to the grid - to make sure
everything runs smoothly.
5Grid - If you aren’t using
all your power the electricity
from your panels flows into the
grid so someone else can use it.
1 Solar PV Panels - Solar PV panels work on light
not just direct sun and rain keeps them clean - so perfect
for the great British weather. When light shines on
the solar panel cells, direct current begins to flow. The
stronger the light, the more electricity is generated.

What options do I have to buy the system?
In today’s economic climate we understand that flexibility
is key for our customers. That’s why at DAS Renewable

Does what it says on the tin - you buy the solar panels
outright and start benefitting from free electricity and feed in
tariff payments as soon as your installation is complete.

DAS can organise a loan for you to be able to buy your
solar panels outright, enabling you to benefit from your
free energy plus your feed in tariff payments (situation
dependant).

It’s a voltage optimisation device designed

LED Lighting
We’ve all heard of LED, but what actually is it
and why is it such a good thing?
Well, technology has moved on a lot since
energy saving light bulbs first came on the
scene over the last decade, so if you’ve got
any preconceptions prepare to turn them off!
LED is different, very different from those dim,
slow starting ‘green’ bulbs of old. In fact due
