I’m Tired of “Doing Social Media": What’s Next? - from SXSW Interactive 2016Matthew Knell
Companion slides for the talk: http://schedule.sxsw.com/2016/events/event_PP50326
With the adoption of social media at most major corporations complete, a new problem is starting. Seasoned social media professionals need to define career paths for themselves, and their opportunities to do "just social media" fade quickly. Many companies do not have social leadership beyond the Director level and experienced employees find themselves topped out with nowhere to grow. Corporations lose because they lose digital native talent. Individuals lose because they are stuck making lateral moves. This panel discussion intends to explore the looming crisis, and discuss about what corporations and individuals can do about it.
Featuring Katy Kelley, Matthew Knell, Sarah Cooley and Tammy Gordon
I gave this presentation on February 29, 2012 for my fourth year eBranding seminar at Queen's University Film and Media Department. In this presentation I look at how celebrities are using social media to manage their personal brand and connect with fans. I broke my presentation up into three parts: celebrity branding, promoting social causes and a case study on President Barack Obama. Enjoy!

In this session Punchkick Interactive’s CTO, Ryan Unger, will discuss how responsive Web design has shifted the perception of what’s “acceptable design” for mobile, and how a mobile presence that’s actually designed for mobile will contribute towards creating an unfair competitive advantage over competitors.

Content Strategy for Slow Experiences MIMA Summit 2013Margot Bloomstein
Online experiences can be fast, efficient, easy and orderly, which sounds like a good thing, right? Surprisingly, sometimes, that’s a recipe for disaster. We click confirm too soon, confuse important details, or miss a key feature in a product description. Efficient isn’t always effective. Not all experiences need to be fast to be functional. In fact, some of the most memorable and profitable engagements are slow and messy—and that’s just right.
Content strategy can identify and support opportunities to control the pace of user experience. We’ll discuss three key features that differentiate slow experiences and uncover the fundamental ways they help users.
Presented at MIMA Summit 2013, October 15, 2013, #MIMASummit, in Minneapolis.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
