The document discusses jobs and skills in renewable energy and energy efficiency in Belgium. It finds that renewable energy currently supports around 7,000 jobs in Belgium, though total jobs across related industries are uncertain. Energy efficiency also supports jobs but figures are lacking. The document estimates renewable energy jobs could grow by 25,000-75,000 by 2020. It finds both new and existing occupations in these sectors, but that skills shortages exist due to new technologies and lack of trained workers. The document proposes using tools like competency models and expanding education programs to develop needed green skills. Finally, it discusses opportunities for employers and job seekers in these areas at an upcoming Energy Forum event.

The document discusses the ESCOLimburg2020 project in Limburg, Belgium, which aims to make the province climate neutral by 2020. The project works with municipalities to develop customized renovation plans for public buildings to achieve energy savings above 30% on average. It explores innovative financing models and aims to invest around 20 million euros to reduce CO2 emissions by around 20,000 tons per year and create about 100 jobs between 2013-2015 by optimizing energy service company (ESCO) models and building industry capacity. The province has long experience with energy efficiency and sustainable building initiatives and hopes this project can help convince local authorities to renovate buildings faster at a higher ambition level.
Replication considerations for the deployment of REnnovates in EuropeHenri Relyveld
Replication considerations for the full scale deployment throughout Europe of the REnnovates concept.
In Europe, differences in climate conditions, building typology, energy regulations, home ownership, citizen association or financial mechanisms, lead to varied housing scenarios where single rigid solutions are difficult to implement. The objective is to present the audience the challenges faced for the industrialization and full-scale deployment of the REnnovates concept and some possible approaches to overcome these differences.
The document discusses Torino, Italy's efforts to become a smarter city through urban innovation and strategic public procurement. It outlines Torino's initiatives including its smart city strategy and priorities in areas like energy, mobility, and administrative innovation. A key part of the strategy is using pre-commercial procurement and procurement of innovation (PPI) to drive solutions in sustainable construction and energy efficiency. Torino has participated in EU-funded projects like SCI-Network and Pro-LITE to build capacity for PPI, stimulate the market for innovations, and launch procurement procedures for innovative lighting solutions in schools. The goal is to better meet urban needs, boost the local economy, and reduce energy consumption and emissions through public demand for innovative technologies and
The document describes a Greek program called "EXOIKONOMO" that provides €100 million in financing for energy saving activities in municipalities with over 10,000 inhabitants. The program aims to improve energy efficiency in municipal buildings, public lighting, public spaces, and transportation. Keratea Municipality successfully submitted an application that outlined plans to save about 2,500,000 kWh/year and reduce CO2 emissions by 790 tons/year through activities targeting municipal buildings, public spaces, transportation, technical installations, and awareness campaigns. The evaluation of proposals submitted was still in its early phases at the time of writing.
The document summarizes two integrated building design projects - ECOBATYS in France and the Green Build Hub in England. ECOBATYS will serve as an educational center for eco-renovation, research, and training local businesses. The Green Build Hub will be a 'living laboratory' to test and monitor eco-building products and serve as a training center located at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England. Both projects used new design methodologies - Integrated Design Process for ECOBATYS and Building Information Modeling for the Green Build Hub - to facilitate sustainable building with low environmental impact while controlling costs.
This document discusses circular economy principles and their application to building renovation through the RINNO project. It provides an overview of circular economy concepts and the EU's support for transitioning to this model. The RINNO project aims to accelerate deep energy renovation rates across Europe using innovative technologies, processes, and business models developed with circular economy principles in mind. The project will demonstrate solutions in four countries and assess impacts. Key tasks include exploring circular design constraints, assessing solutions, developing multistakeholder business models, integrating circular strategies into models, and creating a crowd-lending investment scheme.
