The document discusses a GrowSmarter project that aims to implement integrated waste collection infrastructure in European cities. Specifically, it presents on smart waste collection technology that transports waste through underground pipes to a central location, turning the waste into energy. The technology was tested in a residential area with 300 households in Stockholm, reducing waste truck traffic by 90% and CO2 emissions by 70%. Results and plans for replicating the system in other cities are also summarized.

EU H2020 HIT2GAP - SmarTABCD’15 Workshop - VERYSchool NavigatorArantico Ltd
Presentation given on the EU VERYSchool project at the SmarTABCD’15, Workshop on Smart Technologies and Applications on Buildings, Cities and Districts. The workshop was organized in parallel to the 1th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations (AIAI 15) organized in Bayonne from the 14th to the 17th of September, and focused on results generated by recent European initiatives for the development of innovative smart technologies for buildings and districts efficiency.
Building energy consumption is strongly dependent on the functionality of the building, the occupancy behavior, the outdoor environment, the structure and building materials, and the operation management. Nowadays and to optimize energy consumption, buildings are using automation systems with equipment, metering systems, smart devices and IoT (Internet of Things) applications to optimize their usage. Today’s automation systems produce tremendous amounts of data. This data can be very hard to organize and use across different applications because it is stored in many different formats; has inconsistent naming conventions and very limited data descriptors. In essence it lacks information to describe the meaning of the data. And without meaning a time–consuming manual effort is required before value creation can begin.
On 6 and 7 June 2013, André Bouffioux, CEO of Siemens Belgium-Luxembourg, presented our Siemens’ view on how Smart Cities will develop and generate new business. He made this presentation during the European Young Innovator Forum’s unique Unconvention in Brussels, where young Europeans with innovative ideas and those who will inspire, guide and support them, were brought together.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Editor's Notes
Introduction
-We all know how it is . Stinky waste trucks congesting the streets, collecting trash from overfilled bins, in the streets, narrow alleys or poorly maintained rooms
-Can you imagine…. A city without waste trucks?
2) What did you do?
3) What did you learn?
-Secure the infrastructure. All the way from the scrap to a new product, like these shoes from Veja
-It is important to understand juridical restrictions about who can collect and where the waste goes go (city vs. private companies)?
-Smart waste handling increases recycling rates, resulting in a positive environmental impact. Incentives to and feedback from tenants are important to evaluate and improve the measure as well as foster acceptance.
4) What are the results/conclusions?
-Waste Traffic down 90%
-Unsorted waste down 66%
-Occupied space up to 70% reduction
-CO2 reduction up to 70%
-Energy consumption of the current installation can be substantially reduced by simple means, which will even further reduce CO2 emissions and operational expenses.
-Less space for waste handling means more public space. Also means more shared recreational spaces. congestion was minimized overall.
-All this means an increase in the quality of life.
-Quality of food waste: high
-Quality of packaging fractions: medium
5) What are the replication plans?
-The solution of smart waste handling in Stockholm is being show cased to clients on the global market.
China & SG (with tweaks: design, weighing solution, and user interaction is most important)
-Site Valla Torg will be extended with 50% more apartments within 2 years.
-Envac is doing further development of the concept to increase reliability, reduce energy consumption.
-Envac has established a cooperation with “Locallife” and discussions on launching their products as a complement in both Qatar and Singapore are in discussion. An incentive/feedback system to increase recycling.
-Economy of scale is achieved for areas with an existing sorting facility and recycling industry.
Otherwise costs and benefits escalate proportionally to the area covered by the service.
