The Greater Cambridge
Partnership is investing more
than £500 million over the next
10 years to improve transport,
housing, skills and technology
as part of a City Deal. The group,
made up of local councils,
businesses and the University of
Cambridge, has enlisted Social
Communications to engage local
people and ensure their voices
are heard.
Our initial review of
previous public consultation
exercises and the proposed
engagement strategy led to
recommendations ensuring
new activity consulted with a
wide range of local residents,
commuters and service users
and mobilised potential
supporters. We worked together
to reposition and promote
the benefits the initiative can
bring for all through rebranding
(including brand guidelines) and
a refresh of key messages and
the overall vision.
We are currently strategically
advising and providing capacity
on engagement activity for the
partnership. Part of this was the
#OurBigConversation campaign
which aimed to raise awareness
and get people talking prior to
the start of formal consultation.
In order to engage with the
general public, we launched the
campaign at a busy Cambridge
United game and ran over 20
pop-up events in supermarkets,
train stations, Park & Rides,
high streets and freshers fairs
across Greater Cambridge, put
on business briefings, chatted to
people on social media channels
and held live online talks. A
travel survey with Travel for
Cambridgeshire also took place
and we increased participation
through a prize draw. The
campaign saw high levels of
engagement at our pop-up
events and on social media, as
well as positive media.

international construction
firm Mace since Autumn 2016.
The team has helped to raise
awareness of the depth and
breadth of Mace’s expertise
across the country.
A focused stakeholder
engagement campaign has
helped build connections with
potential new business targets.
Activity has included identifying
suitable business networking
events which Mace should
attend or speak at, based on the
topic, format and attendees. A
number of roundtable dinners
have also been arranged
to engage with priority
stakeholders.
Alongside this, a targeted
PR campaign has secured
broadcast, print and online
coverage to highlight Mace’s
thought leadership on a range
of issues including devolution,
city region transport strategies
and the expansion of Heathrow.
On the latter, we secured live
television and radio interviews

Director, Jason Millet, share their
own expertise and views on
