A quantitative research report should generally include the following sections:

The executive summary
An executive summary is an extended summary of a study usually the last part of the report to
be written (since you need to know what you have said in order to provide the summary), and
should include the following information:
• brief background to the research;
• purpose/aims of the study;
• methods used and the sample;
• brief conclusions outlining the importance of the study.
The role of the executive summary is to give the reader sufficient information about the study,
the essential details, to enable them to decide if they wish to read the full report.

The introduction should provide a background to the research, specify the issue that is being
addressed and review relevant previous research. The introduction may then close by outlining
the purposes and objectives of the study, research questions, and hypotheses.
Literature Review
In reviewing relevant literature, you must carefully structure your findings. It may be useful to
do a chronological format where you discuss from the earliest to the latest research, placing
your research appropriately in the chronology. Alternately, you could write in a thematic way,
outlining the various themes that you discovered in the research regarding the topic. Again, you
will need to state where your research fits.

method and procedure of your study from the information you provide in the report. So we are
talking about a very detailed account which should cover:
1. Study design: What is the overall methodology or design of the study? For example, is
it an experiment (with independent and dependent variables), a questionnaire study, a
qualitative study consisting of a series of interviews or focus groups, etc.?
2. The participants: What is the sampling frame (target sample, e.g., all patients who
attend for counselling during one year at a general practice), sampling method (random,
quota, all) and sample size? This may need to include demographic information (age,

3. The materials: What materials were used in the study to conduct the research and

GROUP PROJECT

I. Background
This is a group assignment. Each group may be comprised of three (3) or four (4) people. Groups of two are not allowed; groups greater than four are not allowed.
During class time groups will be formed. On the day the groups are formed, each group member will present a potential research project idea to the group. Each group will vote to decide what topic to use for the group research report and presentation. Please see the list of suggested topics included in this document. Make sure you select a business-related topic.
The group will complete a research paper and a presentation. Detailed information about these assignments is included in this document. Carefully review all of the information contained under the Deliverables section in order to complete all the requirements for these assignments.
The group will also complete three small assignments related to this topic, team logistics, the work plan, and the proposal. In addition, you will turn in a group folder which contains various documents. Instructions for the small assignments will be given in class and on the Group Assignments folder on Beach Board. Everyone in the group will receive the same grade for these assignments. In addition, the group participation points will be “earned” points. Attendance during class time allocated to group work is required in order to gain the maximum group participation points.

II. Purpose
There goals of this project serve four of the six course objectives for IS 301:
a. Contribute to the solutions of business problems through collecting, evaluating, organizing, analyzing, and presenting information using proper style and form.
b. Conduct research using a broad range of sources, synthesizing and judging the quality of collected information.
c. Plan, prepare, and present a variety of oral and written messages required in a typical business organization.
d. Collaborate effectively in a team environment to produce written documents and deliver oral presentations.
Specifically, this project is designed to give students experience with creating a formal analytical report, which uses proper headings/subheadings, consistent formatting, clear organization and correct APA source documentation style in order to contribute to the solutions of a business problem. Main objective of the assessment
To write a report of a piece of research. This involves being able to use the literature in order to identify a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity to explore, to design/implement a study using suitable and appropriately justified research methods, to present the findings and finally to provide conclusions. You will also have demonstrated that the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research were taken into account. All of this encourages you towards becoming an ‘independent’ researcher. Being independent means (amongst other things) being capable of: (a) formulating good questions; (b) developing and presenting well-informed and well-supported arguments; and (c) defending your arguments in open discussion. Learning to deal with complex, open-ended problems and limited, often ambiguous, information is an extremely valuable preparation for future challenges.
Description of the assessment
In this, you will have shown how you have “draw[n] on the literature in the field, analyse[d] and interpret[ed] research evidence of a discipline-specific phenomenon in order to identify a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity to explore”, that you have “identified a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity, design[ed] and implement[ed] a research investigation/study, use[d] suitable research methods, appropriately justified, and report[ed] efficiently and effectively on the findings, conclusions and (where appropriate) proposals for appropriate action thereof”. You will also have demonstrated “that the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research [were] suitably taken into account”. You need to provide evidence that you have understood and met “the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research”. Given the nowadays tendencies, the new field for social research emerged. These are social networks, where users leave personal information, interact with each other and comment on different political, economic or cultural events. According to the Code of Ethics for social workers, when evaluating or conducting research with the use of any technologies they should receive informed consent of the participants and ensure their confidentiality. It is essential to secure safety and prevent any harm or damage to participants` physical and mental health (NASW Code of Ethics, 2017). Another change of research environment pertains to multicultural and multiethnic societies. In these terms, the key principle for social workers should be social justice, as it encompasses social welfare for everyone (Chukwu, 2015). They should pay more attention to cultural and ethnic differences and include these insights to their researches and evaluations. “Social workers can also use research for policy reform efforts by critically examining legal and public discourse and the extent to which they comply with human rights principles” (Maschi, Youdin, Sutfin & Simpson, 2012). In order to be able to provide highly qualified research or evaluation, the skills should feature transferability. It means that social practitioners should able to explain how their activity is informed by their knowledge base and being able to apply their knowledge and skills to new situations through appraising what is general and what is particular in each situation (Trevithick, 2000). The theory and practice should be effectively combined. Moreover, the special approach to the terminology should be used. GROUP PROJECT

I. Background
This is a group assignment. Each group may be comprised of three (3) or four (4) people. Groups of two are not allowed; groups greater than four are not allowed.
During class time groups will be formed. On the day the groups are formed, each group member will present a potential research project idea to the group. Each group will vote to decide what topic to use for the group research report and presentation. Please see the list of suggested topics included in this document. Make sure you select a business-related topic.
The group will complete a research paper and a presentation. Detailed information about these assignments is included in this document. Carefully review all of the information contained under the Deliverables section in order to complete all the requirements for these assignments.
The group will also complete three small assignments related to this topic, team logistics, the work plan, and the proposal. In addition, you will turn in a group folder which contains various documents. Instructions for the small assignments will be given in class and on the Group Assignments folder on Beach Board. Everyone in the group will receive the same grade for these assignments. In addition, the group participation points will be “earned” points. Attendance during class time allocated to group work is required in order to gain the maximum group participation points.
If you have questions about the report, presentation, or group folder, please ask the instructor early so as to maximize your time.
II. Purpose
There goals of this project serve four of the six course objectives for IS 301:
a. Contribute to the solutions of business problems through collecting, evaluating, organizing, analyzing, and presenting information using proper style and form.
b. Conduct research using a broad range of sources, synthesizing and judging the quality of collected information.
c. Plan, prepare, and present a variety of oral and written messages required in a typical business organization.
d. Collaborate effectively in a team environment to produce written documents and deliver oral presentations.
Specifically, this project is designed to give students experience with creating a formal analytical report, which uses proper headings/subheadings, consistent formatting, clear organization and correct APA source documentation style in order to contribute to the solutions of a business problem. Furthermore, students will work together to develop and deliver cohesive group presentations. Main objective of the assessment
To write a report of a piece of research. This involves being able to use the literature in order to identify a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity to explore, to design/implement a study using suitable and appropriately justified research methods, to present the findings and finally to provide conclusions. You will also have demonstrated that the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research were taken into account. All of this encourages you towards becoming an ‘independent’ researcher. Being independent means (amongst other things) being capable of: (a) formulating good questions; (b) developing and presenting well-informed and well-supported arguments; and (c) defending your arguments in open discussion. Learning to deal with complex, open-ended problems and limited, often ambiguous, information is an extremely valuable preparation for future challenges.
Description of the assessment
In this, you will have shown how you have “draw[n] on the literature in the field, analyse[d] and interpret[ed] research evidence of a discipline-specific phenomenon in order to identify a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity to explore”, that you have “identified a suitable research problem/issue or opportunity, design[ed] and implement[ed] a research investigation/study, use[d] suitable research methods, appropriately justified, and report[ed] efficiently and effectively on the findings, conclusions and (where appropriate) proposals for appropriate action thereof”. You will also have demonstrated “that the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research [were] suitably taken into account”. You need to provide evidence that you have understood and met “the requirements of responsible ethical behaviour in research”. These quotes come from the learning outcomes published in the module block outline.
The Project Report should consist of a carefully-crafted account of your Project. It is important to remember that this Report is the only evidence that the markers are able to use when assessing your work. These guidelines are designed to help you to prepare the best document/Report possible, so that you do full justice to the research you have undertaken. The scientific-experimental approach is aimed primarily at the development of the social work science and the client-oriented approach features more applied nature and is used to implement changes in the society. The management-oriented methodology helps to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of social institutions and the qualitative-anthropological connects the historical and modern observations of changes within the society.
Given the nowadays tendencies, the new field for social research emerged. These are social networks, where users leave personal information, interact with each other and comment on different political, economic or cultural events. According to the Code of Ethics for social workers, when evaluating or conducting research with the use of any technologies they should receive informed consent of the participants and ensure their confidentiality. It is essential to secure safety and prevent any harm or damage to participants` physical and mental health (NASW Code of Ethics, 2017). Another change of research environment pertains to multicultural and multiethnic societies. In these terms, the key principle for social workers should be social justice, as it encompasses social welfare for everyone (Chukwu, 2015). They should pay more attention to cultural and ethnic differences and include these insights to their researches and evaluations. “Social workers can also use research for policy reform efforts by critically examining legal and public discourse and the extent to which they comply with human rights principles” (Maschi, Youdin, Sutfin & Simpson, 2012). Currently, social workers act as the main promoters and champions of human rights and social justice.
In order to be able to provide highly qualified research or evaluation, the skills should feature transferability. It means that social practitioners should able to explain how their activity is informed by their knowledge base and being able to apply their knowledge and skills to new situations through appraising what is general and what is particular in each situation (Trevithick, 2000). The theory and practice should be effectively combined. Moreover, the special approach to the terminology should be used. It means changing terms of patient, case or subject to a client, person or consumer. Similarly, it is better to use an assessment or evaluation than diagnosis, study or examination (Cournoyer, 2017). Social case work writing model

- 3. Report writing: types and content Types of reports include investigations, feasibility studies, research reports, progress reports, and court reports (Healy & Mulholland 2007, p. 87). Reports should: be objective and factual (i.e. clear and include information which can be verified; second-hand information should be identified) be coherent and systematic in their order and structure (i.e. either chronologically, in order of significance of events, or in order of usefulness to the reader) comprise essential information (may include a list of the information that is required and be prioritised according to what the reader needs to know) be concise, to the point, contain clear an evidence- based summary and recommendations with attached actions (Healy & Mulholland cited in Constable 2009, p. 124)

The layout of your report Title page: with the name of the requester, the topic, your name and the name of your organisation o include the full date of request and full date of your submission Header: with title page details Footer: with number on each page Mark it ‘confidential’ on title page and envelope
- 5. The first page should contain: o a brief summary stating what the report will deal with o a brief account of the concluding points The body of the report should contain: o a statement of what your report will contain (provide an order of items to be covered and follow this order when presenting material in the report) o a section telling the reader about the order and manner in which the material will be presented o all material presented and ordered the same as which you have specified at the start
- 6. The conclusion ends the report, and can sometimes include one or more of the following: o a general statement arising from the information you have presented o your recommendations o a final statement about the significance of what you have presented (Healy & Mulholland 2007, p. 100)
