Jaime found that his learning style preferences included being an active, visual, and sequential learner. He explored various social technologies for learning, including games and MMOs, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and social bookmarking sites. Jaime found social bookmarking especially useful for learning about accounting. After the class, Jaime plans to continue using social interactions and social bookmarking to support his ongoing learning.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
How to Make a Field invisible in Odoo 17Celine George
It is possible to hide or invisible some fields in odoo. Commonly using “invisible” attribute in the field definition to invisible the fields. This slide will show how to make a field invisible in odoo 17.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Describe your personal learning preferences
When I first took the learning style quiz at the beginning of the class, I was surprise with how
accurate I think the results where. For instance in the active and reflective scale, it concluded
that I was fairly well balanced, but I did favor the active side more. On the scale for the sensing
and intuitive learners, it resulted again that I was fairly balanced of both styles, but that I scored a
three on the intuitive learner side. I wasn’t surprise as much with my result for the scale that
dealt with being a visual learner or a verbal learner. There it resulted that I was fairly well
balanced, but I did get a three favoring the visual learner region. Lastly, on the scale between
being a sequential learner and a global learner, it resulted that I have a moderate preference and
that I learner better in the environment of a sequential learner. Now that the class is coming to
an end, I feel very satisfied with my learning preferences. One of the reasons is because I feel
my learning preferences do really help me better understand any material. Also, by me knowing
what I favor, makes me tend to go and learn material that teaches it in that specific learning
environment. Overall, after taking this course, I have been able to see which learning
preferences I can work on because in the end I think being able to favor all learning styles can
make learning much easier. So, i've been trying to experiment with this class that I feel has tried
to accommodate really for all styles.

Describe the learning pathway you chose at the beginning of the class
At the start of the class, I was stuck between two learning pathways. I was looking into the
Learning Guide pathway because I was interested in learning about different technologies. I was
also interested in the Learning Sage pathway because I wanted to learn more about different
technologies and how they could be used for learning in general. I always thought Facebook was
just a way of being able to meet people and keep in touch with friends, but after working on the
social networking site quest my opinion has changed. Know I have learned how Facebook can
be used as a way for you to share content, but also be able to review what others have shared. I
also learned how websites as diigo.com can be used to share bookmarking sites that can help you
study for some exam you may have. In the end, I didn’t change either pathways since I was able
to work with others to learn about different technologies and how they can ultimately be used to
learn.

Describe how the activities you completed contributed or did not contribute to your learning
pathway
Out of the all the activities we worked on, the Games and MMOGs helped me get a broader
understanding of how social technologies can be used to learn. With this activity I learned of some
of the wide range of games that are available to learn such as the cell cycle and the lemonade stand.
As working on becoming a business major, working on the lemonade stand game was fun since, it
gave you the change to make what you believe would be smart business decision and see how you
could gain or lose money. The activates on social networking sites on the other hand helped me get
a deeper understanding of using social technologies to learn. For instance, the activity of using
LiveMocha.com helped me understand how there are social networking sites that you can choose
from a list of languages and be connected with hundreds of other people who speak that language.
Not only will you meet new people, but you can also practice speaking the language with a native
speaker. I also feel that using a website like LiveMocha.com can work best for learning with others
to use social technologies. In the end, you not speaking alone, but actually interacting with another
person. Not only do you have the possibility of learning, but the other person you’re interacting
with can also learn.
4. Jaime Chavarria
Using one paragraph each, describe the top 3 social technologies you explored for learning
Games & MMOG’s:
I used the Nobelprize.org activity to learn and also review the subject of biology and the cell cycle.
Personally, I think this site did very well in accommodating for my learning preferences. The three
learning preferences that I felt it did well in accommodating for where, active, visual, and
sequential. This activity was done in a step by step manner, which favored the sequential learner I
am. First you started learning about how each step of the cell cycle worked and then you where
asked questions to see how well you learned the material. This was very interactive and had plenty
of videos that showed you the movement surrounding the life of the cells. By actually reading and
watching the video at the same time, it helped me remember what I was learning. By doing all of
this, over all this made it a great way for an active learner. Normally in class you wouldn’t watch
videos and you would just read the textbook. However by doing something with the information
that I was learning, I was better able to keep hold of how the cell cycle works.
Social Networking:
The social networking site of Twitter is a one of the ways I went about to explore social technology
for my own learning. The way I used Twitter was by being able to keep tract of current news
happening in El Salvador. It was something that a lot of my family and friends where using to learn
of special events and news that where taking place there. After all, we don’t want to lose in touch
with what’s happening back home, since we are living so far away. Being able to read of
everything that’s happening on a day by day basis helps me keep in touch with what’s going on. If
I have any questions, I could also post them and have someone answer me. This would help start a
conversation with others and help me learn even more.
Social Bookmarking:
Social Bookmarking is another format of social technology that I used to help me learn. I found it
to be a great way to motivate me to learn because there was so much information I was able to find.
What made it even better was that helped me being an active learner do something with the
information I had. The fact that most social bookmarking sites had diagrams and photos really
helped me also sees what I needed to learn and get a better understanding of the topic. I used some
social bookmarking class to help me better understand certain topics for my accounting class. I was
having trouble trying to understand my professor, but after doing the research I was overwhelmed
with how much I was able to get from social bookmarking sites. There was so much information
that I think, I could have used it to find any questions or if I had any confusion with anything that
dealt with accounting.

Synthesize your experience investigating your use of different social technologies for learning
I think that being able to use such websites as Facebook interested me the most as using it as a
learning tool. I thought it was just to keep in touch with family or friends and to share pictures.
Now I see that you can create special accounts that focus on a specific topic and have other join and
comment about it. Personally, I feel that all of the social technologies I had experience with offered
something different that helped me learn. Everyone had its own way of accommodating for
different types of learning styles and ultimately did help me learn something different each time.
The social technology that I want to explore further to improve my learning has to be the use of
social bookmarking. At the beginning I wasn’t aware of how much information it has to offer so
that you can learn. As I previously stated, I used social bookmarking to help me further learn about
accounting and the results were great. After having that good experience with it, I look forward to
using it to help me learn about different topics I have questions about.
I believe that the use of social technology such as Facebook worked best with my learning
preferences. Just being able to get the opinions and thoughts of others is great because then you
have the chance of viewing things differently. That interaction you get to have with others is of
great value. You don’t only have to verbally communicate via Facebook, you have the option of
sharing videos, photos which favor me as a visual learner. I think it helps everyone because we all
are capable of learning more when we have both visual and verbal presentation. Being able to have
multiple discussions about a wide range of topics has really helped me learn more. From my
results, I am not much of a global learner but I think this is a good way for those who are. This
form of social technology can be a good way because you can get so much information to absorb
and afterwards you can put the whole picture together.
6. Jaime Chavarria
Describe how you will use what you learned in this class after this semester
The social learning strategy that I plan to use after this class deals with being able to interact with
different people. Being able to interact with people is of great benefit since you get the chance of
sharing common interest and discussing topics. When it comes to having a job, no matter what
kind of job you have, you will always need to interact with people. Either interacting with
customers or having interaction with other colleagues, there is just no way around it. Sure you can
be independent and learn on your own, but by having conversations, sharing ideas, common
interest, discussing issues you have the ability of duplicating what you can learn. Also we have
learned so many ways technology can helps us share and learn ideas, but I believe nothing can
compare to how much we can learn from personal interactions.
When it comes to learning, I was so pleased with how well it went using social bookmarking for my
accounting class, that I see myself continuing to use it once class is over. Yes, social bookmarking
has helped me with school subject such as accounting, but there are plenty of ways to use it for non-
school activities. If you like cooking, you can use social bookmarking to help us find different
dishes you can cook from different places around the world. You can also share your own ideas
and topics. If you like travel, you can use social bookmarking to share cool trip ideas. That’s the
beauty of social bookmarking, there is no restrictions as to what kind of information you can share.
For me who works with the SF Giants, I can use it to share web pages that deal with all sports
including baseball. Overall you can use social bookmarking to interact with others in sharing
information with those who have similar interests as you.
