India is the 7th largest country in the world located in South Asia. It has a population of over 1.21 billion people and its capital is Delhi, which has both an Old Delhi and New Delhi section. Hindi and other Indo-Aryan languages are spoken by 73% of Indians, while Dravidian languages are spoken by 24%. Hinduism is the dominant religion practiced by about 80% of Indians. Important holidays include Independence Day on August 15th and Republic Day on January 26th. Family is very important in Indian culture and often includes extended family living together. The Indian rupee is the currency and the country has a union government established by the Constitution that governs 29 states and 7 union territories.
