This document outlines the genesis, planning process, current status and future goals of the Common Market local food distribution center in Philadelphia. The center aims to address food access issues, support local farmers and create a sustainable local food system. By targeting sales to institutions, the center plans to be self-sustaining while increasing access to local foods. Currently in its startup phase, the center has received grants and loans to launch and has set initial sales goals. Its vision is continued growth to break even within 4 years and eventually replicate the model in other regions.
