A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Democracy is a form of government. The word democracy means ruled by the people. Abraham
Lincoln described such self-government of the people, by the people, for the people.
The citizens of a democracy take part in the government either directly or indirectly. In a direct
democracy, also called a pure democracy, the people meet in one place to make laws for their
community.
Most modern democracy is indirect democracy, which is also known as representative democracy. In
large communities – cities, states, provinces, or countries – it is impossible for all the people to meet as
a group. Instead, they elect certain number of their fellow citizens to represent them in making
decisions about laws and other matters that affect the people. An assembly of representatives may be
called a council, a legislature, a parliament, or a congress. A government ruled by the people through
their freely elected representatives is something called a republican government.
The democratic way of life recognizes the quality and dignity of all people regardless of race,
religion, sex, or social standing. It holds that everyone is equal in court trials and other legal matters. It
provides freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.

The following text is for questions 8 to 11
All human beings eat food and make use of the chemical energy in it, so do all other animals.
Perhaps you wonder where all that chemical energy comes from. Why doesn‟t the food all get used up?
The answer is that new food is being grown as fast as old food is used to. It is the green plants that
form the new food. Animals either eat the plants or eat other animals that have eaten plants.
The green substance of plants is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll can absorb sunlight. When it does so, it
changes the energy of the sun into chemical energy. The chemical energy present in sunlit chlorophyll
is used to combine dioxide in the air with water from the soil. Starch and other complicated compounds
are formed. These are high in chemical energy obtained from the sunlit chlorophyll.
They make up the food on which mankind and all other animals live. In the process of forming this
food, some oxygen atoms are left over. These are given off into the air by the plants. The whole
process is called photosynthesis.
Thus, plants use sunlight to from food and oxygen to from carbon dioxide and water again.
Plants change the sun‟s energy into chemical energy. And animals change the animal energy into
kinetic and heat energy.

There are many pros of using the internet in classes but the most important reason is
because it is convenient for everyone. Both students and teachers benefit from the convenyence.
First, it provides the great potential for changing the students and faculty interaction and may
prove influential in reorganizing the learning process. The student can easily access the material
and actually follow what is going on in the class much easier than if they didn‟t follow up at all
online. The ability to access online course material and documents truly helps the studentin
achieving a stable position for learning. In terms of the professor, it can also be very helpful as it
brings the students closer to the class and makes everything easier, most importantly
communication. Professors can easily communicate with their students through email. They often
use email to send massive announcements and also personal conserns with the students. It even
helps students‟ concerns whenever they want to speak to the professor. A recent article addresses
this issue. “it was interesting that all the students mentioned that they worry about the way other

students perceive or think of them when asking a question in the face-to-face classroom”. Overall,
convenience is a true benefit of the internet.
On the other hand, There are many cons to using the internet in classess. It deals not only for
just the students but for the professors also. First of all, there are many problems associated with
the classroom itself when one integrates technology into it. There are often problems associated
with digital classrooms that implement web casts and such other equipment. This may be due to
both technical issues. This implies that because these problems arisen in the classrooms, it will
affect the learning environment in the negative way as those issues may distract the class. Another
main concern of the internet is through email and interaction. Emailing is often times very slow in
terms of communicating multiple ideas to other people. Often times students need to email each
other because they need multiple questions answered, but because it‟s a slow process in terms of
waiting for a response, it‟s more of a deterrent to the learning than face-to-face interaction.
18. What is the topic of the text?

A. They worry about the response of the professor
B. They do not have time
C. They worry about what other students think or perceive when they ask him face-to-face.
D. They worry that the professor will do not have time answering their question.
E. They worry that their professor could not have time for them
20. Why does the internet bring revolution in traditional teaching-learning process?
A. Internet gives us more opportunities to access knowledge
B. Internet provides students with massive digital library
C. Internet offers overwhelming information and knowledge
D. Internet allows having a non-face-to-face interaction in learning process

Jl. Jambu 129
Bandung
30th January 2019
Dear Fred
It was a real sorrow that I heard this morning of your great loss. I knew your mother
was ill. For your brother told me several weeks ago. However, as he at that time did not
seem to think. The illness was very serious, the news of your mother's death came to me as a
shock. You have my sincere and heartfelt sympathy, my dear fellow, in your sorrow. I know
you will feel it deeply, for you always thought so much of your mother and loved her so
truly. I feel it also as a personal loss to myself for your mother was always very kind to me. I
admired her a good and noble woman. Her death must be a terrible grief to your father
too. Please assure him of my sincere sympathy.
Words, I know, are poor comforters. "The heart knows its own sorrow", and in such
sorrows we are always alone. However, it is not mere words when I say that I feel with you
in your sorrow.
Your sincere friend,
Jack
