INTERNATIONALIZATION
Internationalization is about taking the rest of the world seriously, not only one’s home country, and can be thought of as the formal term for thinking globally before acting locally. It requires knowing enough about the larger world to act appropriately in a specific context and location, especially when interacting with cultural others.
INTERNATIONALIZATION: "any systematic sustained effort aimed at making higher education more responsive to the requirements and challenges related to the globalization of societies, economy and labor markets" Kalvermark and Van Der Wende (1997)
INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE: "the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in intercultural situations based on one's intercultural knowledge, skills and attitudes" Deardroff (2006)

Youth Program of the European Community
Introduction
As the Mediterranean has been for long time recognized as a
meeting-point between Asia, Africa and Europe, with a unique
history stretching back ten thousand years, the birthplace of
religions, and the centre of the known world. We have thought to
utilize these uniqueness to establish an intercultural dialogue among
youth to bring remedy and healing to this bleeding region in specific
and the whole world in general after September 11 tragedy The
project will seek to create a better understanding and mutual
respect between cultures. The concept is to fight fanaticism,
intolerance, xenophobia and discrimination based on race, religion,
ethnicity, language, gender, age and sexual orientation.
The purpose is to bring young people from countries in the North
coast of the Mediterranean to meet young people in the South and
discuss how our cultures were able to live together for centuries and
were able to establish well known histories at either sites of the
Mediterranean in away it should be the case nowadays which
witnesses misunderstanding and the growth of hatred and promote
instead peace and love through understanding each other with
dialogue.
