Smart phones first appeared in Japan in 2005 with the W-ZERO3 by Willcom. They grew in popularity, with the BlackBerry and iPhone being introduced in 2006 and 2008 respectively. The author works in the ICT industry and wants to get a new smart phone to replace their NEC-Casio phone from 2011, which has insufficient memory, is slow, and has short battery life. Smart phones function more like computers compared to feature phones, with touch screens, more applications, and higher prices. The smart phone market is becoming similar to PCs with variety in operating systems like iOS and Android, and many manufacturers like Apple and Samsung.
