Small-scale Indonesian tuna fisheries face opportunities and challenges in obtaining third-party certification under schemes like the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fair Trade. While certification could provide market benefits, Indonesian fisheries must overcome challenges like limited data collection and meeting reporting requirements for regional fisheries management organizations. With support from national and international partners to improve traceability, management, and harmonization of data standards, small-scale Indonesian tuna fisheries may be able to capitalize on certification opportunities in the future.
