2. Introduction
For the small business interview I interviewed my dad,
Steven Rothberg.
Steve is the owner and operator of a construction
company called Ultra Siding, Windows, and Roofing. His
company was created in 1988 and is still very popular
today. It is located in Framingham MA.
My name is Erika Rothberg, I am a freshman here at
Nichols College. I am in Business and Society every
Monday and Wednesday.
3. Describing the company
Steve chose construction because he has been doing it
since he was younger. He started out working for a
construction company called Alumabilt for four years he
really enjoyed it so he decided to start his own. He took
his knowledge and hard work and created Ultra Siding
and Windows.
His business does roofing, siding, installs windows, and
puts in gutters. In the winter they also plow and sand.
Steve opened his business in 1988 and has been in
the construction business for over 25 years.
4. Background
While working for other construction companies Steve
found things he didn’t like. He decided to create his own
company with all of the knowledge he had from working at
Alumabilt.
Steve wanted to start his own company, and he realized
he was really good at construction so he took the risk of
starting his own business.
Steve has been working for construction for over 25 years.
He worked for A&S construction and Alumabilt.
That compares to his company today because Steve had
a lot of experience in construction before he started his
business and that’s the reason he is so successful today.
5. Successes and Challenges
A success for my dads business is that the companies name is
becoming bigger and more people know about it then they did 20 years
ago. A challenge is competition.
The most challenging aspect would be customers. With so many
different construction companies it is harder to get business. The key to
winning customers over is smart advertisement.
Steve over came the challenge by having his old customers spread the
word about his business.
By working hard and putting in as much effort will help him become
more successful.
Bad weather can cause this type of business to loose money. Since
noone can choose the weather it is hard to stay busy year round with
the rain and snow.
6. Future
Steve plans to keep his business running for as long
as he can. He wants to keep spreading the word and
getting as much business as possible. Customer
satisfaction is most important.
7. Summary
My dad told me that it is really important to know
everything about the business before you plan on
starting your own. Don’t ever stop doing what you
love because the more you like your job the more
successful you will be.
I learned that having your own business comes with
many obstacles. It can be really challenging at
times, but never give up.
