ABOUT SLOT DRAIN®
When Slot Drain was first introduced, grating, trench drains
and four-sloped floors were standards in the drainage
industry. Slot Drain changed surface drainage forever by
providing the first pre-sloped, prefabricated drain system
available. In doing so we provide an open floor drain system
that is superior in many ways.
Slot Drain is a one-piece, built-in sloped, open floor drain /
surface drain system with a linear slot on top that is unlike
anything else. The linear slot eliminates the need for grating,
making it the most durable, sanitary and cost effective
drainage system available.
It’s applicable wherever floor or ground surfaces are subject
to fluids, or have frequent cleaning requirements. Most Slot
Drain applications are slab on grade, but it can also work in
structural slabs and hollow core slabs. Overall, it replaces
trench drains, with a self-cleaning system, at a significantly
reduced cost.
Slot Drain was patented in 1988 and was the first floor drain
on the market in North America to utilize the innovative
prefabricated, pre-sloped and slotted concept, reducing
construction labor costs. Since then, it has been installed
successfully in hundreds of applications, satisfying both
customers and construction professionals alike.
Four-sloped floors, or contoured floors, are replaced with
effective, low maintenance and low cost, two-sloped floors.
Gone are the metal gratings and metal covers that are a
nuisance to remove and clean. It’s available in fiberglass,
galvanized and stainless steel, with T-Sections, 90° and 45°
elbows to go around corners and other obstacles.

BENEFITS OF USING SLOT DRAIN®
VERSATILE, DURABLE & SANITARY
A big part of what makes Slot Drain so versatile is that there
is no grating. In addition to common drainage use, this makes
Slot Drain especially suitable wherever grating is not desired.
Some examples would be: areas subject to heavy/high traffic
and food and drink processing facilities with frequent
inspections/cleaning requirements. Part of what makes Slot
Drain suitable for these applications is its durability and
sanitary qualities.
Slot Drain is the most durable surface drain system on the
market. The only parts of the drain exposed are the surface
inlets which are made of stainless steel. The rest of the drain
is embedded into the concrete, so it can handle weight beyond
Load Class F. There is no grating, which deteriorates / breaks
/ bends and needs replacing. This makes it especially suited
for heavy/high traffic areas, such as airport, parkades,
warehouses, truck and rail loading docks.
Slot Drain does not have grating to trap contaminants /
bacteria, etc. A simple hose down of the floor is all that is
required for cleaning. Also, Slot Drain does not absorb
water/contaminants and allows contaminants to be disposed
of in an environmentally manner. Another major benefit of Slot
Drain is that flush valves can be added to the shallow end of
the drain and set on timers or flushed manually in order to
remove any sediment or contaminants automatically.
Slot Drain is sold as a complete system but can be
customized. That means we make it to suit your special
requirements. Adaptations have been made to Slot Drain to
accommodate things such as: depth or flow requirements,
drain length and handling of process water.

EASY TO CLEAN
A specially designed Cleaning Paddle makes
slot drain easy to clean. The paddle is made of
stainless steel and it is easy to use. A flush valve
can also be added for a self-cleaning solution.
Due to Slot Drain’s precise slope, smooth interior
and the addition of flush valves, it is self-cleaning
and maintenance free.
Flush valves can be added to the drain ends,
with time control in order to automatically flush
the system when needed. If manual cleaning is
ever required, a cleaning paddle is also supplied.
The paddle has the same profile as the Slot
Drain section and are simply inserted through
the slot, then twisted 90 degrees and moved
along the drain.
Since Slot Drain has no grating, you are saved
from removing it then shoveling out the drains
contents, a simple scrub down of the slot is all
that is required.

Compared to grated trench drain, Slot Drain is much easier to clean. Grates need to be
pulled out for cleaning which costs a lot more time and labor.

SANITARY
Slot Drain is the most sanitary and durable
drainage system available. The only parts of the
drain exposed are the surface angles, which are
made of stainless steel, so it’s easy to scrub
down/sanitize.
The rest of the drain is embedded into the
concrete, so it can handle whatever weight you
want to put on it. There is no grating to trap
bacteria or break or bend. This makes it
especially suited for facilities with stringent
sanitary guidelines.
Slot Drain does not absorb water/contaminants
and allows contaminants to be disposed of in an
environmentally friendly manner. Another major
benefit of Slot Drain is that flush valves can be

SAFETY
Slot openings are made of
stainless steel. The absence of

It is a narrow linear system which
is safe for vehicles. Especially in
workplaces with forklifts, where
slot drain systems are much
safer than grated trench drains.
For outdoor applications, slot
drain is friendly to pedestrians,
strollers, wheelchairs, etc.
The absence of gratings allows Slot Drain to bear weight beyond Load
Class F. Slot Drain can be made to ADA Compliant with slot openings
under 13 mm (1/2”).

DURABLE
Slot Drain is sold as a complete system but
adaptations can be made to accommodate
things such as: depth or flow requirements,

By modifying Slot Drain to handle process
water, it saves you both time and money by
eliminating extra trenching, piping and
backfilling.
Slot Drain is durable as there is no grating. It
does not deteriorate, break bend or need
replacing. This makes it especially suited for

parkades, warehouses, truck and rail loading
docks.
Slot Drain is available to be shipped worldwide and arrives fully assembled,
ready to be installed. Grated trench drains get rusted and for maintenance,
grates have to be pulled out and replaced.

INSTALLATION
Slot Drain is easy to install in both new buildings or as part of a renovation.
Slot Drain is easy to install, reducing
labor costs and minimizing chances of
error.
It takes two men approximately 20 to 30
minutes to install one 15 foot section.
Forming, framing, welding and edging are
all eliminated and screeding is reduced to
two slopes instead of four.

Instruction Process
1. Tape over the slot.
2. Finished floor sloped to the
drain.
3. & 4. Floor slab shaped to
accommodate drain and
concrete.
5. Peg supports cut off 4” below
finished floor elevation.
6. Anchor setting tabs to top of
pegs securely.
7. After concrete is set, remove
tape and temporary spacers in
slot.

RETROFIT
Instruction Process
1. Tape the slot.
2. Level and set the drain sections straight to the required height, using J-hooks and 2x4’s.
3. Assemble the sections using the bolt flanges provided.
4. Pour the floor.
5. Remove tape, J-hooks, 2x4’s and spacers in the slot. Grind off spot welds to produce a smooth
unobstructed slot.
Slot Drain may be customized to replace an existing
trench drain or pit drain or for new drain installation
in an existing floor.
Again, the principal of Slot Drain is that it is simple
and easy to install. For retrofit installation, that
process is simplified as well. Just cut out where the
drain is to be installed, lay the drain down in the pit,
using 2 x 4’s to keep it suspended and level with the
existing floor, then pour the concrete.

Drain sections arrive fully assembled and ready to
install. No grating to screw on, no anchors or drains
to weld, simply bolt the drain ends together, then
pour your floor.
The surface inlet angles which form the
slot are used as a screed and the
concrete finishing machine trowels right
over it.

constructed as 9’6” long, 6” wide, and are
available in 0.5”, 1” and 1 ¼ ” wide throat
openings.
 Drain bodies are either made of T304
Stainless Steel or galvanized sheet, both with
stainless steel interlocking ends, and
radiused bottom. The surfacing areas and
drain frame is made from T304 Stainless

 Catch Basins are constructed from
either fiberglass, galvanized steel or
stainless steel as 12”X12”X20” deep,
and are available with 4”, and 6” outlets.
 Basins come with a reinforced cover and
can withstand heavy traffic loads.
 The exposed surface of the Catch Basin
frames are made from T304 stainless
steel. They have rebar tie-ins for easy
installation.
