How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.

3. Question 1: Budget Cuts
The Principal of Chicago Hill High school has been directed to either generate
more revenue or face deep cuts in the schools athletic budget. One proposal
that has been placed in consideration by the Advisory Board is to require all
students to pay a participation fee if they want to participate in junior varsity
or varsity sports. The fee would be determined by the overall operating cost
for the sport. A parent group has begun to protest the decision saying that it
will keep poor students away because they will not be able to afford the
mandatory participation fees. Which response would be the most
appropriate in response to the parents’ concerns?
A) Inform the parents that these fees will keep all sports so they need to be
supported by everyone including parents
B) Agree with the parent group and do not implement the practice which will
lead to ending several of the team sports
C) Ask the parents to donate funds for the low-income students who cannot
afford the participation fee and therefore guarantee sports survive
D) Ask the parents and other stakeholders to meet with the principal and
develop a fair and equitable process that will replace this proposal
4. Q1: Answer: School Budget Cuts (D)
• A Implementing the participation fees will most likely have the effect
of reducing participation by low income students and this would be
unacceptable
• B - Not implementing the policy would also mean ending some of the
sports teams and this would have a negative effect on students.
• C – While this seems like a viable option, what would happen if there
is only enough money for seven students and ten are in need.
• D – Best Answer – the first step is to always seek the input of
stakeholders and then develop a plan of action that is fair and
equitable.
5. Question 2: School Vision
At a high school which has had chronically low test scores; the principal
has been tasked with developing a new vision. Which is the most
effective first step in selecting the committee members to formulate
the vision statement?
A. Contact district administration and ask them to select
representatives from central office to participate on the committee.
B. Develop a written, concrete plan that will be followed to select
committee members as well as participation parameters.
C. Formulate a list of potential participants by meeting with the PTA
president, superintendent and department chairs from the school.
D. Ask the school-based administrators to formulate a list of five to
seven possible committee members.
6. Q2: Answer: School Vision (B)
B is the Best Answer. Developing a school vision is a collaborative process
that should include parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned
persons.
(A) requesting district administration to select representatives from the
central office to participate is un-democratic and would be seen as a top-
down bureaucratic move
(B) (C) It is inclusive to ask for input from the PTA and others but each of
them will select persons who they think will push their own agenda,
(C) (D) school-based administrators will normally ask those parents who
have been both more participative and easy to work with, so
(D) (B) before any selection is made – an objective, well-written, publicly
assessable plan must be formulated to insure a level playing field for
nomination and selection.
7. Question 3: Action Steps
At the beginning of the first year of a principalship, which of these would be
the most beneficial action to take prior to formulating a school vision?
A) Ask the previous principal of the school what his vision was and
where he went wrong.
B) Collect data, observe and document the school culture for the first
part of the year as an important part of a Needs Assessment.
C) Meet with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and discuss what they
see as the best direction of the school.
D) Develop and administer a survey to students to get a better idea of
what they dislike about the school.
8. Q3: Answer: Action Steps (B)
(A) While it is sometimes helpful to ask the previous administrator for
information, it is often one-sided and does not offer wider
perspectives,
(C) Meeting with the PTA is another way to gain information, but also
offers just the perspective of parents
(D) student surveys are also helpful but usually concentrate on school-
based issue, so
(B) the best strategy is to collect data, observe all areas of the school
and document how the school culture has developed.
9. Question 4: Gender Issue
Coach Valentina Gonzalez has been recently selected as the county’s new Athletic
Director. She is the first female to hold the position in a county that is dominated by
several prolific male coaches who have won numerous state championships. The
summer coaches’ clinic and banquet will be held at Randolph High school and hosted by
Mark Balesque; the school’s principal and himself a former championship football coach.
Gonzalez will be the keynote speaker for the event, but at the beginning of the meeting;
she is met by uncooperative chatter and behavior by these coaches who have outwardly
expressed that a “woman cannot do this man’s job”. In addition; they are upset that one
of their male coaching colleagues was not selected for the position.
Which of the following would be the best course of action for the hosting principal?
A. Let her squirm – if she cannot take the heat – the she does not deserve to have the
position and they are right to heckle her.
B. As the host, call for a level of decorum that befits their professions – inform the
coaches that they must respect the position if not its holder
C. Move quickly to her defense and take over the meeting. The coaches respect the male
principal who is a former coach.
D. Immediately step in and end the meeting. She is obviously not ready to lead the
organization and this cannot happen in your school.
10. Q4: Answer: Gender Issue (B)
Best answer (B) – as the host the principal is within his responsibilities
to insure the meeting is adequately supplied and goes smoothly. His
suggestion asks for a higher level of respect rather than demands it.
A – Unacceptable as it does not afford the level of support that any
other keynote speaker would receive.
C –taking over the meeting and the microphone would lead to a further
deterioration of her status and ability to lead.
D – Ending the meeting also would send the message that they do not
want a female supervisor.
11. Question 5: The Bully
Donald Tromley, a sophomore student, has been brought to the office for fighting for
the second time this month. Donald is an openly gay student who complains that other
students pick on him by calling offensive and hurtful names. His reaction to insults and
taunting is often a verbal and/or physical confrontation that leads to him getting the
worst of the fight. His mother has complained to the assistant principal that her child is
being harassed, but each time Donald actually threw the first punch according to
witness accounts. She takes her complaints to the principal and asks what he will do
about the intolerant atmosphere of the school.
Which of the following is the best option for the principal to take?
A. Seek resources for the faculty, staff and students to receive some form of sensitivity
training that will increase respect for all students, sooner than later.
B. Inform the mother that the atmosphere of the school is fine – her son is the
aggressor and tell her if he changes his sexual orientation – the abuse will likely stop
C. Modify the student’s schedule so that he does not come in contact with his
antagonizers and ask him to stay away from them at all cost
D. Find resources to get counseling for the student so that he can deal and possibly
change his sexual orientation.
12. Q5: Answer: The Bully
Best answer A – The only way to change the culture and atmosphere of
the school is to first acknowledge the challenges and then seek
research-based strategies.
B – The atmosphere of the school is not fine and even though the
student is the aggressor – the climate of intolerance will lead to
additional issues.
C – Modifying the students schedule is a temporary solution that does
not solve the problem.
D – This strategy is unacceptable and disrespectful of the student’s
personal choices and freedoms.
