2. Communication:
Communication is simply the act of
transferring information from one
place, person or group to another
Categories of Communication
■ Verbal communication
■ Nonverbal communication
■ Written communication
■ Visualization
3. Silence
communication:
■ Silence generally means
absence of any kind of
noise. But in communication it
is seen as absence of
speech. So, absence of speech
doesn’t mean that the person
is not communicating with the
other person. Silence is a very
powerful form of
communication. Depending on
the situation, the meaning of
silence differs on each
occasion.
4. Contnd.....
■ During a speech, if the speaker
pauses in between he is trying
to mean something. If the
pause is very short, it means
that he is trying to recollect
what he is going to speak
next. If he pauses for a long
time, it means that the speaker
wants the audience to either
think about the matter he said
or he is looking for some kind of
response from them. It can also
mean that the speaker is
seeking the attention of the
audience because he is going to
say something very important
next.
5. The more a man speaks,
the less he is
understood. – Abraham
Lincoln
■ In reality, though, silence can be a very
effective communication tool.
■ The statistic show that 93 percent of
communication is nonverbal. It comes
from research by Dr. Albert Mehrabian.
7. Theories of
communication
■ The picture exemplifies what
said. The drawing represents a
family in a domestic context.
All characters seems to be
silent. A father, a mother, a
grandmother, a son and a
daughter seem to be
portrayed. Everybody seems to
keep silent attending to his
own occupation: the father is
reading, the mother cooking,
the daughter is looking after
the doll, the grandmother pats
the cat and the son breaks into
with a little dog, probability
found in the road.
9. Positive and negative
aspects of silence
communication:
■ Silence can be negative and positive .Though our
communication may appear overly verbal, over
90% of it is actually non-verbal. It’s important to
stay silent so that we may ‘listen’ to these non-
verbal cues? If we don’t, chances are we’re
missing what people are trying to convey to us
underneath the symbols of their words.
11. Constructive use of silence:
■ It’s easy to get frustrated at the workplace. Bureaucracy, mediocrity and
politics can frequently cause us to flare up and react. But doing so only
undermines both our health and our image. Practice silence in the face of
chaos. Wait for the calmer, more restrained response. Over time, your
threshold for chaos decreases and you become a calmer person who’s
capable of eliciting a more rational response from your mind.
12. Emotional Intelligence:
■ Emotional intelligence has an introspection and
a communication dimension in terms of both
conflict and mediation. Parties to a conflict can
prevent silence, maintain silence, and consider
their own as well as their counterparts' points of
view. Salovey et al. Has argued that emotional
intelligence can help a person to "generate or
emulate" To facilitate feelings related to feelings
and feelings to vivid emotions "and that
emotional intelligence" includes the ability to
interpret complex emotion such as emotional
mixtures and conflicting emotion states
13. Silence is a bad
communication,
miscommunication
.
■ That’s wrong: according to Anolli’s
elegant definition of
miscommunication it would be “to
say not to say” ; we better say that
the communicative silence is “not to
say to say”. Someone considers
silence a rare but certainly
communicative phenomenon,
secondary that’s why useless to be
studied. But in the social and
relational systems silence is not rare,
it represents a fundamental way of
subjective communication
14. Why silence
communication
?
■ We should use silence during our speech
for emphasis. The effective use of silence
is a powerful communications tool. Any
bit of silence indicates that we are in
charge and we want attention of the
audience in the any conversation. The
moment of silence will cause anyone not
fully listening to refocus on us and will
give greater impact to the phrase
punctuated at either end by the silence.
Silence can be a real booster of our
authority, competence, and self-
assurance. Shakespeare called the eyes
“The mirror of the soul.” The eyes are a
highly important communicator. The
solution to sending the right signal with
your eyes is simple and to the point: look
at the person or people you are talking to
18. CONTND:

NO PERSONAL GREED
ACTIONS SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS
