Sleeping Beauty

- 8. The three goodfairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather also arrived to bless Aurora.
- 9. Flora blessed theprincess with beauty while Fauna blessed her with the gift of song.
- 10. But as Merryweatherwas about to give her gift to the baby, a gust of wind blew open the doors.
- 11. There was aflash of lightning and a flash of thunder.
- 12. Suddenly a brightflame began to burn in the hall, which took the shape of a woman.
- 13. The wicked fairyMaleficent had arrived and to show anger at not having been invited she cursed the baby…
- 14. “On her sixteenthbirthday your daughter shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die!” she said.
- 15. The good fairiescould not undo the curse, but they changed it.
- 16. “She shall notdie, but sleep until a kiss of the true love breaks the spell,” said Merryweather.
- 17. The King andQueen would do anything to protect their daughter.
- 18. The King orderedthat all spinning wheels in the Kingdom be burned. But the fairies thought this was not safe enough.
- 19. We will raiseyour daughter and bring her back when the curse ends on her seventeenth birthday,” they offered.
- 20. So they broughtthe baby to the woods and as the years went by she grew more and more beautiful.
- 21. On her sixteenthbirthday, the good fairies sent Aurora out into the woods to pick berries, so that they had time to prepare a party.
- 22. She walked alonghappily singing when suddenly she heard someone say: “What a lovely voice”
- 23. Aurora turned aroundand saw the most wonderful young man and without thinking she invited him to the cottage that very night.
- 24. When Aurora cameback to the fairies she was all excited.
- 25. “I think Ihave fallen in love,” she said and told them all about the young man in the wood and the invitation.
- 26. The fairies knewthe time had come to tell the truth.
- 27. They told Aurorathe whole story and then they all began the long journey back to the castle.
- 28. But all Auroracould think of was the young man who would come to the cottage in vain.
- 29. When Princess Auroraarrived at the castle, Maleficent put a spell on her and in a trance she went to a secret room in a tower where Maleficient had hidden a spinning wheel.
- 30. Aurora touched thespindle and fell into deep sleep.
- 31. In the meantime,Flora had found out that Aurora’s young man was Prince Philip.
- 32. Now it wastime to find him – only his kiss could save the Princess.
- 33. That night whenPrince Philip went to visit Aurora in the cottage he was surprised by the terrible Maleficent.
- 34. “Capture him!” sheshouted to her henchmen, “he is the only one who has the power to break my curse on Aurora.”
- 35. Prince Philip wasbrought to Maleficent’s dungeon and there she revealed to him that his girl from the wood was really a Princess.
- 36. Luckily the goodfairies found Maleficent’s dungeon and with wisdom and magic they managed to save the Prince from Maleficent and her henchmen.
- 37. “These weapons willhelp you triumph over all evil,” they said and gave him a Shield of Virtue and a Sword of Truth.
- 38. Then Prince Philiprushed off to save his Princess.
- 39. As he gotclose to the palace, Maleficent let a wall of thorns grow up in front of him, but he cut his way through that.
- 40. Then she turnedherself into a fuming dragon.
- 41. It seemed animpossible battle, but after an exhausting fight with the weapons the good fairies had given him, Prince Philip finally won and raced through the palace gates.
- 42. In a roomin the tower he found his beautiful, sleeping Aurora.
- 43. “Wake up, mylovely Princess,” he whispered and kissed her gently on her lips.
- 44. Aurora woke upand smiled to her prince. Together they left the chamber and descended the stairs.
- 45. The Prince broughther to her parents and they were happily reunited.
- 46. And that nighteveryone at the castle celebrated.
