This is a story about a very hungry caterpillar which later becomes a beautiful butterfly. This story is in the Intensive English program Grade 1. May other Primary teachers find this a bit helpful in their teaching very young kids. Many thanks to the composer Mr.Yanni, one of my favorite composers. 1. THE VERY HUNGRY
CATERPILLAR

2. The light of the Moon

3. A green leaf

4. A little egg lay on a green leaf.

5. The sun

6. In the light of the Moon there was
a little egg lying on a leaf.

7. In a warm Sunday, pop! Out of the
egg came a very tiny caterpillar.

8. On Monday, he ate through a big red apple.
But he was still very hungry.

9. On Tuesday, he ate two pears. But he was still
very hungry.

10. On Wednesday, he ate three plums. But he
was still very hungry.

11. On Thursday, he ate through four strawberries.
But he was still very hungry.

12. On Friday, he ate through five oranges. But he
was still very hungry.

13. On Saturday, he ate through
an ice cream cone, a chocolate cake, a cherry pie…

14. a pickle, a Swiss cheese, a salami…

15. a lollipop
a cup cake
a watermelon

16. At that night he felt sick. And he ate one big
green leaf. Then he felt fine.

17. The next day was Sunday again. He was not tiny any
longer. He was a very fat and mighty caterpillar.

18. He then built a small
house called a
cocoon around
himself and slept
there for more than
two weeks
(or fourteen days)

19. When he nibbles his
way out, he is not a
caterpillar anymore.
He is now a very
beautiful butterfly.
He feels very happy.
