SLEEP DISORDERS
It was raining heavily, I was driving my car, and everything was blurry. I was racing my car as a
weird unknown vehicle chased me. It was a head on head chase where I raced for my life and
suddenly, BAM, I got hit! My car crashed onto the opposite truck. I jolted and sprang to my feet
and breathed heavily. Gosh! It was just a dream! Guys, this is what happens when you are a
victim of sleep disorders. You always get the craziest and farfetched dreams like those of the sci-
fi or thriller movies. There are few things that I would like you people to know regarding what it
is like to be a person with sleep disorders. I’d like to share one such incident which I experienced
quite recently.
It was a pleasant Saturday morning. I and my friends had scheduled a perfect trip for that
day. Things went on very well on that day. Everything was good. I reached my home late that
night and was completely exhausted. I longed all day to go to bed but when I finally got the
opportunity, I couldn’t sleep. Damn, the same old disorder started. I was insomniac. I was rolling
on my bed till midnight trying hard to sleep but every attempt was futile yet I didn’t know when
I dozed off and I was experiencing this worst nightmare of all. I’m clear that I’m sleeping but I
was able to see my own self laying in bed sleeping. It was something like that a copy of me or a
projection of myself was able to see my own self. It appeared that there existed a dual me, a
replica! I was able to see myself laying in bed and then suddenly strange things like clouds of
black soot or shadow appeared around me. I was able to feel myself levitating on my bed and
these strange dark shadows were encircling me. It resembled the “Dementors” in Harry Potter. I
continued levitating and the dual I was able to see all these happenings. I suddenly felt heaviness
in my chest, something was pushing me downward. I was gagging. I couldn’t shout or speak. I
felt numb. I felt a huge pressure being applied on me. A chill ran through my spine. I couldn’t
move or shout. I was completely numb. This struggle continued for a while and I suddenly woke
up! My dual I was gone and I was sitting upright in my bed. I felt that a cup of water would be
good and got up and walked out of my room but the walk was never ending. Though I walked
and walked, ran and ran I didn’t even move a single pace. I was shouting out of fear because of
this mystifying illusion. I felt something was wrong. I felt like sinking, falling deep down and
BAM, “Hey, wake up, you’ll be late for school” yelled my mom! I sprang to my feet and
pinched myself just to ensure whether at least this was the reality. It really was. I then realized
that I was in a dream within a dream, sounds like inception, doesn’t it? Hah, but it isn’t. It was
due to my improper sleeping pattern. This may sound ridiculous but sleep deprivation often leads
to serious mental and health disorders. This ought to be prevented and taken care of by means of
medication and proper cycles of sleep.
So guys, I’m sure that you will be able to realize the importance of proper sleep and
methodical sleep cycles. As the Irish proverb says “A good laugh and a long sleep are the best
cures in the doctor’s book”, I too say, it really is!
