The triangular trade routes transported slaves from Africa to the Americas. Slaves endured an 8-10 week journey across the Atlantic on ships. They were obtained through kidnapping, trading, and being sent as gifts or prisoners of war by African chiefs. In the Americas, slaves worked 18-hour days in the fields under harsh conditions with little free time. House slaves had better living conditions but still worked without rest on Sundays and took care of household tasks. Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807 and emancipated slaves in 1834, granting them full freedom by 1838, while slavery in the US lasted until 1865.
