The SITE Institute, founded in 2002 by Rita Katz and Josh Devon, was dedicated to monitoring the online activities of terrorist organizations until it ceased operations in 2008. It is known for its high-profile acquisitions of videos from al-Qaeda and faced controversies over its methods and claims, including a misidentification involving video game footage. Following the closure of the SITE Institute, some of its staff established the SITE Intelligence Group to continue similar activities.
