• Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
was born in
Edinburgh,Scotland.
• He studied medicine and
worked as a doctor for
eight years.
• Then he began writing
short stories for weekly
magazines.

• His mother died when Arthur was only two

• In 1885 Doyle married Mary Louise Hawkins.She
suffered from tuberculosis and died on 4 July
1906.
• The following year he married Jean Elizabeth
Leckie, whom he had first met and fallen in love
with in 1897. Jean died in London on 27 June 1940.

Place although his
birthplace no longer
stands.
• This statue of his most
famous creation was
created by Gerald
Ogilvie Laing in 1989
and placed close to
where his birthplace
stood.
15. Death ....
• Doyle was found clutching his chest in the
hall of Windlesham Manor, his house
in Crowborough, East Sussex, on 7 July
1930.
• He died of a heart attack at the age of 71.
• His last words were directed toward his
wife: "You are wonderful."
