This memorandum outlines the redesign of three Southern Polytechnic State University webpages for mobile users. The pages redesigned were the top level homepage, a text heavy "Meet SPSU" page, and an information request form page. For mobile, the pages were simplified to focus only on essential information like degrees offered, campus descriptions, and streamlined contact forms. Nonessential text and fields were removed so users could easily access key details on small screens. Icons and buttons replaced long passages of text for quick browsing of options on small mobile displays.

This memo outlines the design decisions for 3 webpages from Southern Polytechnic State
University’s Prospective Students website.
For this assignment, 3 different samples from the Southern Polytechnic State University
website were used. The following webpages were used:

Assumptions
Each page was redesign for the mobile user. A screen size of 320x480 was used as the
template for the design. Mobile users will likely have a screen with these dimensions are
larger but smaller dimensions were taken into account.
Mobile users interested in the prospective student section of the SPSU site will want to
access the site quickly and easily. They will want information on:
 The type of degrees offered
 The type of classes offered
 Tuition and student fees
 School/classroom environment
 How to request more information
 Location/Directions

The Prospective Student homepage focuses on the three levels of degrees available at
SPSU as well as information about the campus. For a mobile site, only the essentials are
necessary. Users will want to know about the university and the different degrees that
are offered. The mobile site has been stripped of the unnecessary text and the
remaining information has been reorganized. In the center of the mobile site user will
find three buttons dedicated to the three degree types offered at the university. A
simple toolbar was left to help students locate information that was not pertinent to the
courses/degrees.

The page “Meet SPSU” is dedicated to describing a snapshot of Southern Poly. The page
is text heavy and would not be effective on a mobile device. Users will have to scroll
down to the find the exact information they want to read. Instead of finding information
quickly, the user will waste time searching through all the text on the page. On the
mobile site, “Meet” was replaced with “About” and the heavy text has been replaced
with icons. Each subheading on the original page (along with addition important
headings) was changed into an icon to allow users to access the information they
needed without wading through unnecessary text.

6. The “Request Information” page involved a form for users to fill out with general
information (name, contact information, gender). The current site also includes sections
for the user to answer questions about their current education. On the mobile site, this
information only will frustrate the user. On a mobile device, filling out the many boxes
becomes complicated and could deter the user from completing the form. For the
redesign, the extra fields were removed and only necessary information was included.
Once the user filled in their email, a simple SUBMIT button would complete their form
or a CANCEL button to return to the previous screen.
The redesign of the current sites into mobile sites will allow users to learn more about
Southern Poly without wading through unnecessary text. The information is provided in
a clear and concise design that takes the guess work out of navigation.
