Sincere Speech … Is pure, honest, and true speech. God requires our speech to be such. Jesus said, in Mt. 5:37 , But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. There are different types of impure language/speech.
Not To Swear… "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.' Mt. 5:33 BUT Jesus says, don’t swear at all ! Don’t swear by heaven Mt. 5:34-36 Don’t swear by the earth Don’t swear by Jerusalem, etc.
Don’t Take God’s Name In Vain Many people say, Oh my God! Jesus Christ! I swear to God! Etc. … As an exclamation. Not in reverence , thereby taking God’s name in vain. Psalm 89:7; 111:9; 1 Cor. 10:31 This type of speech is condemnable! Ex. 20:7; Mt. 12:31-37
Abstain From Euphemism’s Euphemism Defined : the use of a word or phrase that is less expressive or direct but considered less distasteful, less offensive, etc. than another. Politically correct? The use of a Euphemism is the same as using the bad word itself. It still means the same thing. Ex. darn for damn Whatever happened to the pure - Oh, Yes, or Oh, No? Mt. 5:33-37
Our Sound Speech Sound means… whole, healthy, teaching which does not deviate from the truth. (Thayer) Our speech should be sound . Tit.2:6-8 Our speech should bring grace to the occasion – Col. 4:6 We’re to speak the truth in love. Eph. 4:15 What example are you giving by your speech? Phil. 2:14-15
Hear Jesus Speak Hear Me - Heb. 5:9 Believe in Me – Jn. 8:24 Repent to Me – Acts 3:19 Confess Me – Rom. 10:10 Be baptized into Me – Gal. 3:27; Acts 22:16
